'03 Sunstorm face tanners not turning on?

I noticed that if I run the bed for the full session and try and put it on for another session right after (within 5 min) the face tanners don't turn on. It's weird, sometimes 1 face tanner comes on or sometimes 2 or 3 and sometimes none of them come on. I should mention that all of the tubes come on as usual. This only happens if I run the bed back to back (within 5 min of a previuos session) This hasn't happened yet when the sessions are spaced out. Is there some sort of timer that prevents them from turning on? It doesn't make sense though as it seems to be different face tanners that are not working or none at all when this does happen. Can anyone help?

They are either not getting cooled enough caused by a weak fan or your voltage is low. When HP lamps are hot they do not light. This is made worse when the volatge is low.

What is your voltage inside the bed at the main power connection?
What brand of HP lamps are you burning?
How many hours on the HP lamps?
How long do your fans run after a session ends?

Volatge is 232, while we are on the subject can I go one notch higher w/o frying anything?
Heraeus

You should go up around 240v. Is that 232v running or 232v with no load? It may drop to below 230v when running and that maybe the issue with Heraeus lamps.

The unit came with Radium lamps which start better.

Im new but It sounds like to me its its a fan sensor. First thing i would do is to make sure all of the facial fans are running and and free of dust. Hope this helps.

THe Heraeus lamps I have run hot. If the bed has individual thermal couplers like mine, then there is a cooling issue or an ignitor is on its way out. For me its usually and ignitor that wont fire when the bed gets too many back to back sessions, but when cool its fine. Replace ignitor and all is fine.

As for fans, some can even spin and this look like they are working when they are not. Its just air flow caused by other fans. So pay close attention when checking fans.

Re: '03 Sunstorm face tanners not turning on?

SunStorms do not have facial fans. They feature 1 main fan for the whole bed. The fan may be the issue but more likely the running voltage may be low.

Since there are issues on all the lamps it would most likely not be all the ignitors.

I would first check the running voltage. Do not run the bed for more then a minute with the front cover off when checking the voltage.

If the Voltage is below 230v I would boost the voltage. The ballasts for those facials are rate at 250v.

Yeah, I think you are right Robert, it's not the same lamps that are doing it everytime. Sometimes it's 1,2,3 or all 4. One thing I did notice, if I fire it up back top back times to test the face tanners it is always different ones. That would indicate to me that it not an issue with one lamp in particular. I am guessing that its 232V when it's running, to tell you the truth my electrician told me that it was at 232V so I will talk to him about stepping it up a notch. So running this bed ~ 240V will not be an issue? I am use to running my base beds at 230ish and this is my first high powered bed, I just don't want to fry anything going into the busy season. Thanks for all of the info.

Re: '03 Sunstorm face tanners not turning on?

It is normal for voltage to drop a volt or two when a bed is running. Sometimes it drops 3-4 volts which may put you under 230 volts when running. Orbits / Sunstorms love voltage. Feed it around 240 and watch you clients tan!

.....and your facials turn on!

.....and buy some Radium facials for a real blast!

Re: '03 Sunstorm face tanners not turning on?

remove the front kick plate you will see a vent with a cage in the middle make sure you remove all the lint and crap there with a vacuum. next check the vent covers on the back of the unit one on the foot and one at the head end, make sure both are intact and not broken your issue sounds like a heat problem . if the voltage is above 220 is should light up the facials. no more that 235v if you do the life of the bulbs will be reduced. over 240 and these beds tan like no other but reduce life of bulbs. call me if you need more help 3104181519
