Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

I am looking to expand my salon and my main question is the electrical. What exactly am I looking for as far as my service? I currently have a total of 7 units and looking to get 2 mid levels units. I beleive right now I am running 240 volts 3 phase. Would I have to upgrade my service or will that enough?

Thanks

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

The Voltage and phase, while helpful, are the question. Its the AMPs. The panel should have an AMP rating. 400+ would be great!

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

Like Unity says take a look at your service and what you are currently using:

1) What size is your service? (200 or 400amps probably?)
2) Is is single phase or 3 phase service?
3) List the beds you are currently running?
4) How many tons is your A/C unit?

We will then be able to better answer your question.

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

Go back and open your breaker panel for the store. Total the amp values for all of the breaker switches in the panel, and then subtract that from the total service capacity of the panel (it's probably 200a) - the difference is available amp capacity left on the panel. Depending on the beds you're considering, you're probably looking at needing around 80a give or take. Also, if you have three rather large cables going into the top or bottom of the panel, then you have 3 phase.

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

I have a 3 phase and it is a 200amp service. What I have right now is
3-Tansytems 3200
1-Tansystems 3202
2-Suncapsule lightstream
1-Ultrasun Magnum 4000/3

I'm looking to get maybe 2 sunstorms(depending on whats goingon with Dr Mueller) or maybe KBL's 5600 or something compatible or cyclones. Not exactly sure what yet what I will be getting yet but I have 2 empty rooms waiting to get filled..

Thnaks,
Islands

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

You'll have to check your box to know for sure, but I'd guess the following:

3@20A - TanSystems 3200 (could be 30A single phase - may not be 3 phase)
30A - TanSystems 3202
2@40-50A? - Suncapsule Lightstream (don't know this unit)
40A - Ultrasun 4000/3

Add in your A/C, convenience lighting, possible w/d, etc - I'd guess the panel is pretty close to tapped out and you would need to add another - probably why there are two empty rooms in the first place.

Have an electrician (or 3) come out and assess how much room you have in the current panel, as well as give you a quote to add another 100-200A

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

With your AC and lights your are averageing about 160A a leg if everything is balanced.

To give you an idea Orbits draw about 53A. You may be able to add one unit if you shift things around in your panel. You will be over the 80% rule but your electrician may not care.

Tansystems 3200 & 3202 30A (4)

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

Just talked to the landlord and he confirmed that it is a 3 phase 200AMP Service and the A/C is 5 Tons. The total square footage of my salon is 1400 square feet.

Re: Looking to Expand...Have electrical ?

You can also go to Home Depot and buy a amp probe. Cost about $35-$50.

Then turn on everything and take a reading on each of the 3 legs. The probe "clamps" around a wire and reads the amount of power running through it. You will want to take a reading on the Black, Red and blue wires coming into the pannel.
