Question Best Mix for 10 Bed Salon

If you were opening up a 10 bed salon, what would be your ideal mix for equipment? How many levels would you have and how many beds for each level? Would you get all of your equipment from one company or mix it up a little? Which exact beds would you choose? I am asking because I am about to decide which equipment to put in my second salon that will be opening in July (I know...its the worst time to open but I really have no choice here). I just want opinions from other salon owners before I make my final decision. By the way, high pressure beds are not huge here. I may have one, but probably not.

Re: Best Mix for 10 Bed Salon

Opening in July this year might be the absolute worst time EVER. But, you can do whatever you want.

The question to you is what are you looking to take in? Are you dealing with upper clientelle or broke *** fools? Are you looking to work off of volume or more select clientelle? What is the space you are looking at have for A/C, electric, sq footage, etc?

Re: Best Mix for 10 Bed Salon

Are you going to start with 15 or 20 minute beds? What do you plan to spend because we can come up with a knock your socks off mix but you may not want to pay for it. If you were going to have HP, I would say you need 4 levels. HP, big vhr bed, medium vhr, and base.
Without HP, the same, just take off the Hp. You can add a standup
but I would just put that into the big vhr or medium vhr level.
If it was my salon, I would have HP.

Re: Best Mix for 10 Bed Salon

I would also. There are way too many "good deals" on hp these days and in a place of that size it's a must have.

You could do something like
3 or 4- 32 100watt lamp 20min beds like the Heartland Ovations (they can be "converted to 15 if need be but I wouldn't cause you need some beds that "don't cost you anything")
2 or 3- 12-15min beds (like the Encore or equiv)

1 or 2 -10min "feature VHR"

1 or 2 Standup (2M or equiv no more than 11-12min max)

1 HP bed (sporta what nows are nice)

Re: Best Mix for 10 Bed Salon

Lets try this again...
The reason I am opening in July is that its a new strip mall and we got an amazing deal on the lease, buildout, electrical, etc if we agree to do the big grand opening with the entire strip mall (in July).

My clientelle is pretty upper middle class. Of course we have many cheap *** clients, but I think you get that anywhere. Its pretty average, middle of the road type of clients here. I would love to have a large volume of customers. The electrical and A/C is no problem really. They are handling all of that and will adapt everything for us as needed.

You have a salon open now, right? So secondary location or moving?

Re: Best Mix for 10 Bed Salon

Engfant, I was thinking of something very similar to what you mentioned. My current salon has 3 level one beds (20 mins), 1 level 2 (12min), 1 level 3 (12min), 2 level 4 (12 min & 9 min standup). I wanted to have no more than 3 level ones in the new salon and have more higher level beds and multiples of them instead of just one of each!

Re: Best Mix for 10 Bed Salon

For the base bed, you could also look at the Utrasun Sunburst 4200. It is a 36 lamp 20 minute bed. I think it can also be a 15 minute bed with different lamps. For your 12-15 minute bed, look at the Heartland
5400 and 6400. Good quality beds but not at a break the bank cost.

I really think that these are KBL beds rebadged as Heartland. The best part of buying them from Heartland is they have a 5 year warrenty. For the show case big vhr bed, I would go with the big Dr. Mueller Sungate.
For a Hp, Magic all the way. Second choice, Mastersun. Third, Matrix.

Oh, don't forget to get that Turbo bed that all the customers ask for. Your not a true salon owner until you tell someone you have a turbo bed.

Haha! Yeah, I have people come in all the time and ask for either the bronzing bed or the turbo bed! I just point them to the Level 4 bed!
