Rep Power: 22 | Can a buck booster go bad? Yo! So all my beds, except the Hex, have buck boosters. Ugly little things they are. Anyway can they go bad? I have one bed that is running hot as David Hasslehoff on a Harley ;) Ok, bad analogy. But the bed certainly get warmer than others. The room is the same size as the rest of the same beds with the same specs and manufacture date. Cooling fans are all good and I even took the bench apart and cleaned all those duct bunny colonies out of there. The really "sign" is that the foot fan and exhaust fans run faster than any of the others. It can be clearly heard even if you turn the foot fan off and listen to the exhaust fans while a neighbor bed is running. My guess, too much voltage. But the outlet tests at 220v like the rest. I know - swap it with another bed. But before I get under the beds and fine lost candy, iPods and underwear I though I would ask.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Can a buck booster go bad? Check the voltage on the other side of the booster and see what the voltage is. Easiest place to test would be where the wiring connects to the bed. That will give you the voltage coming out of the booster. |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Can a buck booster go bad? I thought of that, but wont the bed have to be on? Does it not adjust voltage when the bed runs based on what the bed demands?

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Can a buck booster go bad? Nah, the voltage should be constant there. What do you have your boosters set to? +/- if you know off hand. Adding/subtracting that number to the 220 that you said you metered at the outlet will give approx what you should have at the bed. |

Rep Power: 17 | Re: Can a buck booster go bad? Where do the fans draw air through?(vents, grates, ducts?) A fan will run harder and cool less if the area where the airstream comes in is obstructed.Even being too close to the wall will hamper airflow speed through the vents.make sure there is adequate space around all intake vents. I was in a competitors salon trying out some equipment last year,i noticed the bed i was in was extremely hot. When I got out,i noticed the fans really started cranking.I looked behind the bed and the canopy was literally against the wall. When I lowered the canopy the fans slowed down. I chuckled to myself, got dressed and left. |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Can a buck booster go bad? Well all the rooms are the same. There are 7 cooling fan. Three under the bench that pull from below the bed, two exhaust on top the canopy that blow out and two intakes on the canopy that pull in for the face tanners. There are no obstructions. I will check the voltages, my gut tells me its that but I will also try swapping out buck boosters. I found an extra one laying around but I am not sure if its for these beds.

Rep Power: 25 | Re: Can a buck booster go bad? First of all what bed are you talking about? Then we can go from there to tell what to check. Highly doubtful on the voltage. Also check the volatage coming out of the bed. You said you have 220, everyone says that that doesn't understand electrical and requirements. If you only have 220 I would boost it to 230. Depends on the bed and what voltage to be at. What beds though and we can go from there to trouble shoot. |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Can a buck booster go bad? Its a SunStar ZX30 3F. Yes, the voltage coming out of the wall is 220v, this building is about 60 years old. The beds also say, in the book, they require 220v but from what others say thats not always true for optimal performance, hence the reason I think the prior owner got the boosters.
