Tanning Bed too hot

Hi everyone.

I've been tanning at my local salon for well over a year now.
I've never had any problems. I always use the same turbo lie down bed.

Last night after 8 minutes into my session the bottom of the bed got extremely hot. After another minute I had to get out.
This has never happened to me. I usually do the max. 12 minutes without any discomfort.
When I got home I noticed severe burning all down my back and back of my legs. But the front of me is absolutely fine.
Today I have welts all down the back. I've never been burned like this before.

Is it possible that the bottom lamps are over heating?

I called the salon this morning just to warn them and they said the bed was fine. That they used it this morning themselves and everything was normal.
Could it be because I had my session at the end of the day?

I'm just nervous about using the bed anymore. Not to mention that I may not be able to tan for a while because of the severe burns.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like the left over residue from a tingle product! Even though the salon attendant cleans the bed thoroughly, this can still happen. You should let the staff know this happened to you-I'm sure they will compensate you for it! Take care...

Re: Tanning Bed too hot

Need to define "turbo bed". Either they put high UVB lamps in the bottom or new lamps in the bottom and this is the issue. Fans may be clogged but that won't make you get a UV Burn from it but just be straight out hot.....

Re: Tanning Bed too hot

+1 on the tingle. Or the bed may have JUST been used a couple times before and got hotter than normal. But I would, as mentioned, asked if the bed was re-lamped.

Re: Tanning Bed too hot

Thanks everyone.
It was beyond "extreme hot"
And the burn marks were everywhere that my skin had contact with the bed. No part was left untouched.
Maybe it was left over residue but wouldn't I of felt the burning long before 8 minutes into my session?

Sarge I'm not sure how else to describe the turbo bed. They call it a turbo bed. I'm not sure of the specifics like brand. I can check next time I go in.

Re: Tanning Bed too hot

No. It's the tingle lotion. That's all. EVERYWHERE THE SKIN HAD CONTACT WITH THE BED is all I needed to read.

If your skin was really that burnt you'd be in the hospital with 3rd degree burns ON TOP OF you don't feel SUN BURN till much later NOT during a 8min tan in some "turbo" bed that's most likely some 100watt poop tanner.

I wouldn't tan for a day or two, just to make sure...tingle is not supposed to give you a long term "burn" anyways...

Re: Tanning Bed too hot

Okay make sense then.
I've never even heard of these tingle lotions.LOL
Does it mean I'm allergic to them?

Anyways I guess I'll go without tanning until the burn lessens. I've never seen my skin so red before.

Re: Tanning Bed too hot

^ what engfant said.... but if you did feel this burn did you go home and take a shower? that usually takes care of it. also from my own experience the redness from a tingle usually just lasts a few hours then it's gone.

if you go back tanning take your own body length towel with you for part of the session and build up gradually. it sounds to me like you were in a 160 watt bed, i can't even do a full 12 minutes in ours and i've been tanning year round for 5 years. :)
