Exclamation Sunstar ZX32 won't start

I have two ZX32's at room 2 and 3 in the chain. When someone went to start the one in room 2, at the delay, it made an alarm type sound and didn't start up.

Now both Sunstars do the same thing. I can send time to the beds and the delay starts. You hit start on either and the keypad shows the minutes and flashes like it is running and the body fan controls look like they are working, but no power to anything. No body fan, bed fans, lights. Speaker beeps like it should, so power and connections between wall and bed and timer and keypad appear okay.

I unhooked both and set them back up like a stand-alone unit with the timer pug. Power up the bed and can set the minutes and change fan speed, but again no power to anything.

I also switched timers between the beds just praying one or the other would work. Same results...

Hopefully someone can please give me some pointers to try other than by two timer boxes at $450 each. One of the boards are only 4 months old but ETS said no warranty on them that long.

If not, anyone have some cheap boards for sale with quick shipping?

Thanks for the help.

Unhappy Re: Sunstar ZX32 won't start

I am no expert....but it sounds more like a short in the bed, possible with the on/off wire that controls the ballasts/starter etc

Re: Sunstar ZX32 won't start

Sounds like you had a surge and it blew out both control boards.

It would not be the address since you can send time to the beds, that means the timer portion is working.

It would not be a short since both beds have the same problem at the same time.

Running the beds in stand alone mode confirms that it is not a front desk controller problem or communitcations problem. The timer portion still functions.

It sounds like the triacs on the boards that control the main contactor and the fans for the bed have toasted from some sort of surge.

All other functions work as you said so far as setting time and the body fan functions but no output to the contactor or fans. The control board is broken up into separate parts (circuit wise) and the portion that runs the main contactor and fans is cooked.

Sounds like it is time to crack open the wallet. Sorry.

Yep. Pretty much my prognosis...was grasping at straws and hoping there was some way to avoid shelling out more money on these beds.

$1100 each for a new board... Yikes!

Thanks for the quick replies.

Pop the top of the bed open and manually push the coil in, to make sure that the bed works. If it does, the board is probably the problem. What I am wondering about is why your other beds weren't affected.

Re: Sunstar ZX32 won't start

I have one of these beds and it did the same thing a few weeks ago. It is about 7 years old. I was told the timer board could be bypassed and run it into a T3A. My husband is studying the schematics to figure out how to do it. Hopefully it will work and save me the $$. Really don't want to put that much money in an older bed.

You will need A T-Max timer, a fan delay relay, and a contactor for each function, some switches to control the body fans and facial. It will cost about the same to rewire it in parts as it will cost for the new board but using generic parts will make it more reliable.
