I'm not a salon owner, but I need help from you wise mystical tanning gurus! I bought an old tanning canopy to prepare me for my trip to the exotic islands off the coast of Thailand, but I get nothing out of it and want to put in new bulbs. It's a 1995 Sunquest 2000 with 10 bulbs. The sticker is a bit worn, but it looks like it says :

U=110 V 60 Hz P =1000 W
I=9.1 A

The bulbs in it are Wolff Diamond Sun S
Info on the bulbs say DSS71-T12-100W

Looks to have 2 little pins on either end of the bulbs.

I would like to get new bulbs, but, what can I say? I guess I'm cheap! So I can't spend a fortune here (already blew my gold nuggets on the trip).

So what bulbs would you recommend? I want to get the deepest darkest tan humanly possible from this thing, preferably with bulbs that don't require me to sit under it for 30 minutes (I have to flip, mind you, so that would total a whole hour for each tanning session). I saw some "XS Twister" bulbs on ebay for about $9.25 each, which I was considering because the price is right, but who knows if they will work in my bed or even produce good results?

So now I call upon the spirits of the wise ones (that would be you) to make a recommendation. My fate lies within your hands! LOL!

'darkest tan humanly possible' and 'cheap' aren't in the same catagory.

Don't do ebay, you probably won't get what you're looking for.

The bulb experts will be around soon, so stand by.

Oh, so true! :) Do yourself a favor, and go to good salon in your area. They will be able to give you a great tan.

^^Your local salon will also point you to an appropriate lotion. Lotions are very important in getting a great tan.

'darkest tan humaly possible' will be at your local salon. Can't compare a 10 bulb canopy to a 52 bulb bronzing bed with facial tanners or a nice high pressure bed!

I know that the tanning canopy can't compete with the tanning salon. When I say "darkest tan humanly possible" I go on to say "from this thing" (meaning my tanning canopy). Basically, I just want to try and make the most out of this. I purchased it because I don't go to salons around here. It's just inconvenient with my shecdule. So I realize that I may get less out of my canopy than if I went to a salon, I'm just asking what bulbs I can put in here to get the most out of it!

Call whomever you want, but honestly a 10 lamp unit is not gonna help much. Hit a reputable local salon for your pre-trip base, and hope your home unit will maintain a PRO tan.............

The money you spent on this unit plus the lamps your going to purchase, not taking into account the time your wasting. Well, you could of tanned at your local salon in the best of beds. If you were to go to your local salon and talk to them they may help you with your lamps. I have purchased lamps for people that have home units.

Well thanks everyone, for all your "help". I didn't really ask whether or not I should go to a salon, but hey, I know you make your living out of people like me going to your salons, so I guess I should have expected such a response. Anyways, I'm still going to make the best with what I've got. Thank you VT, I'll be giving him a call tomorrow morning!
