Rep Power: 0 | New salon - where to source equipment in the UK? hi I am just about to open a small salon up soon.... It will only have 2 standup UV tanning cabins (not sure between high or low pressure yet), spray tan , 1 beauty treatment and theopy room and in the shop front we'll be doing nails. Can anyone recommend a equipment supplier in the UK? I am most interested in the best places to source sunbeds and spray tan equipment etc Anything else related to nails, waxing and other beauty treatments but not hair would be really appreciated. If the majority of you guys are in the USA (probably) could you suggest makes and models that I should look into for stand up tan cabins and spray tan equipment. thanks!!! :-) john |

If you're going with 2 tanning cabins, why not have one vertical and one horizontal? Many of my clients like the 'relaxing' aspect of tanning on a bed. It's not all about getting a tan, but also about having some quiet time for yourself and enjoy the warmth and the light. :-) |

I fully agree with you, the customers are buying the experiance not just the product/service. Unfortunatly we just don't have enough space, the shop we are probably going to go and rent is only about 30sq.m so very small but it's in a good location.

Rep Power: 43 | Re: New salon - where to source equipment in the UK? A I see, that is small indeed. Well maybe when all is going well: look for a bigger place! I think it's a good idea to diversify. We have all kinds of businesses under one roof as well. Beauty Salon is doing well, Nails unfortunately not great. Massage is taking off and all of our sports activities do very well. With several businesses you attract more groups of clients who will also try another activity as long as they're there. We do a lot of cross selling this way. Anyway: good luck! |

There are other services I can do via the salon as a base, I can maybe take my personal training cliets to the salon and use the beauty room for consultations, nutritional or whatever, I know a nurse who does botox and colonics so we might be able to offer that on an appointment only basis and run a sort of clinic. I just want to get the basics in place, mainly the tan cabins, spray tan and massage bed etc... see what things are gonna cost in the current market now instead of just estimating the equipment costs. thanks... for your advice

I have found the shop and know what I'll be paying for rent and rates, it's in a good location and used to be a hairdressers... they have moved a few doors down to a bigger unit but there is nobody in the locality that does tanning/nails/beauty. My girlfriend works in a salon now so we have a very good idea of what the consumables and other smaller things cost and have a good idea of the amount of hours that are needed to be put in and the customers we need through the door. BUT we only have a general idea of the larger items. And we have NO idea about setting up accounts with suppliers and things like that. No I'm not a PT right now... I am being made redundant from my normal job (Process Engineer). So I am at presant getting qualified as a personal trainer, it's been my hobby for a number of years so I already know enough to get results in the gym and nutritionally. I'm a moderator on a bodybuilding forum and give advice for free, I enjoy this so may as well make it my profession, I have trained friends before but I need the qualification for insurance puposes to be legally allowed to practice in a gym. |

Rep Power: 43 | Re: New salon - where to source equipment in the UK? Those are the big costs: equipment, space (to buy or to rent), electricity etc. and personnel (do whatever you can yourself)... Try to estimate well, don't prognose yourself rich :-( and shop shop shop before you buy! You are a personal trainer yourself? |
