Rep Power: 0 | Buck/Booster too low... I'm pretty sure I know the answer already but I'm looking for conformation. My bed people sent me buck boosters that I believe to be too low for my needs. I have 239 max draw at the outlet and the bed requires 215-230. They sent me a total of 3 but two were shipped late and separately. The first was -24 putting me at the bare min. of 215. The next two showed up -34 making putting them at 205. I called them about it and they blew me off saying it was fine (although THEY say it needs to be 215-230 in the manual). Tell me the truth here. Is the result going to be that people are not going to tan the way they could/should? |

Rep Power: 92 | Re: Buck/Booster too low... What brand are they? Most typical b/b trans (Square D, Hevi Duty) have multiple configurations and can raise/lower different voltages depending on which you use (this also changes the current rating so you have to know what you are doing and stick with the application guide that hopefully came with the trans).

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Buck/Booster too low... Choke ballast beds should run 220-235V. If you are at 239V, I doubt that you need buck boost transformers at all. If you run at less than 220V the beds won't run right, fans will be slightly slow, and lamps slightly dim. |

Rep Power: 92 | Re: Buck/Booster too low... TannedB, if you decide you need the buck boost, don't be confused by the voltage rating of -24 or -34. They are not used the way you might think (just subtracting the number from the utility voltage), doesn't work like that. You need to give us more info on what they sent you to see if you have the right thing. (shall we all pile on the choke ballast conversation or just point to the old thread?)

Rep Power: 92 | Re: Buck/Booster too low... That thread won't answer the buck boost question, just ballast differences. Looking at the Square D buck boost application guide, a 12/24volt secondary buck boost will take 240vac down to 229vac, a 16/32volt secondary buck boost with take 240vac down to 225vac. You may have the correct transformers, but you still have to size the capacity correctly for the bed draw.
