bulbs not working? - tanTALK

I came across this search on the web; some guy was saying his philips tlk-4ow/10r bulbs in his bed weren't tanning. I could use these germicidal bulbs to develop photopolymers. could this be why he's not getting a tan? Maybe he would like to part with them...

The uva & b content in those bulbs will do nearly nothing to tan a human. The 40w in the bulb definition stands for 40 watts. Not nearly enough energy being developed to tan with but might help in growing hemp.

I would say if he is trying to tan with these he is out of luck. Aren't those the type of lamps used in aquariums?

isnt "germicidal" ultraviolet C? Isnt that really bad for the skin?

He's got a table top tanner, maybe 4 or 6 lamps, 24". The 10R has 1/10th of 1% UVB, lots of UVA, practically useless for tanning.

I was serious about using them to develop photopolymers, the UVA strips electrons, which also helps promote skin cancer. Although I do find it a little humorous that this person would be sticking them in a tanning bed-must've gotten them for free.
