Does any know the weight limit on Acrylics?

I have a couple of customers that are more than overweight and am concerned. Anyone have any ideas?

Check with the bed mfg. They should be able to tell you the limits.

i have heard 300 pounds.. but how are you to tell someone that they are too fat.. you might try offering the stand up to those larger people if you have one.

Re: Does any know the weight limit on Acrylics?

Depends on the support of the bed. Ours have no weight limit.

Re: Does any know the weight limit on Acrylics?

We have one bed that we use specifically for this purpose. Manufacturer states limit is 350 lbs on bed with plastic support runners (up length of the bed). We wanted to double the runners but you can't do that without risking your insurance (there is a problem when you change or adulterate the bed..... you have no resourse, and your insurnce will not cover you for this problem. )

When at the last convention, we talked to a number of manu'f and they told us that they are increasing the weight limits in recognition of the obesity epidemic in this country. The whole discussion went to foreign cars making wider seats, etc.... bed manu'f are no different. They are paying attention to the fact that big people deserve to get a tan... and in fact, problably need it as much as or more than anyone else.

Not only do we need to be conscious to the needs to the heavier person, but allowing them to tan will help them in their efforts to look and become more fit. I suggest that you find a bed that you know for a fact will tolerate the heavier person and use that one exclusively for your larger clients.

Don't consider sticking the larger person in the stand up. These people are more susceptable to being overcome by heat. Also, when they have that much weight on their bodies, they have bad ankles, knees and hips... so can't stand for very long. Not to mention, bad hearts, etc..... you really want to have a heavy person standing up for 10 min's in a heat producing environment? If so, be ready to call 911.

I would think most of these clients would be aware of their own limitations regarding these issues.

Re: Does any know the weight limit on Acrylics?

We don't set limits here either Mitzi, and you're right about skinny people breaking acrylics also! We don't have too many customers that would worry me due to their weight. Even then, how do you tell someone that they are too fat to tan in your salon? You can't do that. We have had seasons where we could barely keep a spare acrylic in stock, but I don't remember it being due to anyone's weight. Usually is just some ******* plopping down on the bed like it's their sofa or trying to reach their cell phone while they are tanning.
