Rep Power: 0 | We had a client today ask us if we had "one of those bronzing beds" that she has used downstate (Michigan). What in the world is she talking about? I wasn't sure if there is a bed called a "bronzing bed" or if that is just a marketing term or something. Could the other salon be refering to their lamps? Just looking for some clarification. Thanks!! |

Rep Power: 23 | "Bronzing Bed" is a bogus term in my opinion! A bronzing lamp typically has low UVB & higher UVA, most times in a reflector version! Beginner tanners will usually see a nice bronze color from such a lamp. However, a more experienced tanner won't see much of anything from such a lamp! Traditional High Pressure units usually can give almost anyone a nice bronze color! |

Rep Power: 0 | I think that y'all are right about it being the lamps and I agree John that it is most likely a "bogus" term. Thanks for all the wisdom folks. This is always the best place to come to clarify some of the crazy crap that we hear from clients and sales people. Happy Friday! |

Rep Power: 0 | I agree, its a very generic/bogus term, but it sells! My "bronzing beds" are a mid level bed with a higher UVA output and still have a 20 min time. I refer to them as our ultra bed... which is considered 2 steps up from the base beds. |

Rep Power: 113 | I use the term "bronzing bed" for my UWE Tropical Series and there is a reason....people tend to see a more "bronzed" tan from that bed and a redder tan from my traditional Sundash 32's. I completely disagree that a beginner tanner will see better color than a more experienced tanner. I don't think the lamps that I have in there (Cosmo VLR 100W) stimulate enough melanin in a beginner tanner, but the tanners that already have a base tan see great results in that bed. I never recommend anyone use that bed exclusively because of this reason. This is just something I have learned about this bed/lamp in the 3 years we have had this bed, this is not something I read or was told so I know this to be a fact, at least with my tanners in my salon..... |

Rep Power: 0 | John, I take it that you are saying that your base beds should have a low uvb and high uva for beginers and your higher level beds should have higher uvb to stimulate the more experienced tanners, am i correct? |

Rep Power: 23 | Depends on the bed selection at the salon. But you never want to make your entry level units too good! You want to "WOW" people when they walk out the door, a low traditional low UVB lamp will not do that for many skin types! |

Rep Power: 0 | In replying to the original post, I've had people come in before and ask if we had a bed with the UVB bulbs. A lot of consumers don't know the difference between UVA & UVB rays, so they have been told that the "B" in UVB bulbs stand for bronzing. (I'd love to know who told them that!) The customers you talked to probably came from a salon where the person didn't quite know what they were talking about, and exaggerated that the bed is solely for bronzing to get a sale. What do you think? |
