I bought a used tanning bed for home use. First off i would like some advice from a home tanner. The tanning salon in town said I should warm my bed up by turning it on for 20 minutes BEFORE I get in to tan. ?? does this sound crazy?

Also is there a test I can do to see if my bulbs are good. They all light up but does that mean that they are tanning me? I am fair skin so I haven't yet gone if for very long yet for fear that I would burn. Thoughts??

Thanks !

The hotter the bed the less output of uv rayz... don't warm it up. There are uv meters or monitoring the lamps

Lamps do need to warm up before their output is at maximum. But that only takes a few minutes, NOT 20 minutes. So unless the acrylic is uncomfortably cold when you lay on it, don't worry about it.

The best test you can do on used lamps is whether they tan you or not. Gradually increase your time each session. If you don't get good results, you need to get new lamps.

Yes if its below 65 warm the bed up 5 min or so cold bulb need to be warmed up for correct uv output. most likley its a suvision bed most popular home unit depends on what bulbs are in it most have velocity bulbs good for about 500 hrs or dark tan bulbs about 300 hrs if you know how many hrs are on the bed this should help you . if you are not getting results dont waste your money on a meter to many conditions depend on reading first you would need to know output when bulbs were new to know how much the output has dropped the readings will be different depending on temp/distance from bulbs and more .your better off to relamp and keep a record your self or if unit has hour meter log down hours when you replace them even if you buy the cheap dark tan bulbs for a home unit you will get about 300 hrs thats 900 20 min sesions before you need to relamp.you can buy them for about 7-8 dollars each.

It isn't a sunvision bed. It's a 220 volt older Wolff bed.

Wolff systems don't make beds? So this catolog I have is?? http://www.sunenterprises.com/tanning_beds.htm This sure looks like wolff products to me.

My bed was manufatured in 1986. It didn't come with an owners manual nor does it have a name written on it anywhere. From photos I posted here in late march early april I was told it was an older wolff systems bed.

I honestly don't care what kind of bed it is. I just asked about the bulbs and if you have to pre heat them. I'm trying to see if there is a reason I am not really getting color when I lay in the bed. Not even that pinkness after I get out. Of course this bed has wonderful fans on it.

You mean my 10 minute VHR isnt a Cosmedico Bed?

wolff has never made tanning beds put wolff bulbs in any bed regardless of who made it and you can call it a wolff system bed.
