HA HA HA HA. Voltarc, burnt out lamps? There is a reason why I pay the big bucks for the good stuff. I can work them and work them and they keep on tanning. I've NEVER seen a lamp "burn out" or HALF BURN OUT??? What does that mean? Half the lamp is black? If so I GOTTA see what this lamp looks like.

Oh yeah, I'm not "anti Voltarc" or anti anything specific. I just call a spade a spade. Junk is junk and if you have an alternative choise then you are really "getting what you pay for". If you don't think so I have some diamondoids and fools gold to sell ya. LOOKS the same as the real stuff.

One of my beds ONLY receives "hand me downs" from another bed (canopy) and people SWEAR by it as the BEST and STRONGEST tanner.

2 visits and I can get you tan and these lamps are approaching 700hrs. This is 2 FULL TANNING SEASONS from one set of lamps and STILL OUTTAN the surrounding salons. THAT'S what I call a GOOD DEAL ON LAMPS.

Ok Engfant I need your advice or anyone else who wants to share. Not to change the topic, but you know I am a new salon owner and I really want the best results from my beds. I have new equipment (2004)models, anyway, I am watching my lamp life closely. My starpower has 650 hours on it and is still tanning real well. I am wanting to change the bulbs, but my maintenance people say they are fine and wait another month or so. My sunstars have around 300-400 hrs and sunvisions have about 200-300. Should I change my bulbs or switch them around? When I mention different bulbs, they tell me I have good ones and if they are tanning people leave it alone! So if it's not broke........don't try to fix it, right?????
I'm sure there are other postings about this on here somewhere, but I would like to be right on top of this. Also, how can you have two beds that are identical with the same bulbs and almost the same amount hours be different? I have several swear that one bed is (hotter)
than the other and they always request this one certain bed and then tell me they don't like the other! What could be wrong??

Thanks for any input!!

AH HA! It's the starter! You guys really let me down here.

Okay Engfant, gimme your faves for 100W (with a short tan time) and 160W bulbs.

Oh yeah, the starter. Well, you DID ask for it when you brought up our favorite lamp to hate on.

tuscanysun, I'm not sure how to answer you cause there are a million different reasons for everything you are asking.

USUALLY 100watt lamps will last longer than 160watt lamps. 600-800hrs is common for the average QUALITY 100watt non reflector lamp.
100watt reflectors are good for about 600hrs, and 160watt lamps are good for about the same.

This is if you are using quality lamps. Generics and high UVB lamps are sorta a guess as to when they are gunna croak.

Actually, Buy a UV meter is the real answer.
