We received a quote on some beds from an unnamed vendor. Along with the quote, they provided some cash flow information. One piece of the calculation was bed utilization on a monthly basis.

The following percentages are their estimate for each month of total bed capacity.

Jan 35%
Feb 40%
Mar 45%
Apr 50%
May 55%
Jun 25%
Jul 25%
Aug 25%
Sep 20%
Oct 25%
Nov 25%
Dec 30%

Are these utilization rates realistic?

Thanks!

I too am looking into this industry.

The vendor I contacted sent me the following operating percentage (same as utilization rate) numbers:

Jan 50%
Feb 60%
Mar 80%
Apr 95%
May 95%
Jun 65%
Jul 35%
Aug 20%
Sep 20%
Oct 30%
Nov 35%
Dec 35%

The above numbers are for each bed.

I believe that these will vary with salon location, beds, clients, competition, marketing, etc.

I am not sure about the validity of these percentages, so take them with a grain of salt.

Do not EVER believe a vendor. His/her one goal in life; to make a sale. That comes at your expense, in the cost of buying into the fabrication.

Numbers are always inflated. The typical 'bait and hook'. What are the #'s a % of? How do they know the # of potential tanners for a set area. Those #'s they put out are the same for every prospect.

fan is exactly corret. Location/competition/marketing/type of equipment mix all play into the 'real' utilization.
