John or Ed, I've got 300 hours on these lamps now and the black ends are really getting bad. They only appear on one end of the lamp though.

I have these lamps in my Tanses U-32 and T-32 beds. I've used Cosmolux and Sig. Series before, but not gotten this much 'black end' in either case before. I am using electronic starters which is supposed to help prevent black ends. With this few hours on the lamps, I'm disappointed. They are cranking out the UV, but the lamps look bad to the clients. Any news of a 'bad' run of lamps?? I can get you some production numbers if that would help.

We only run into that problem on Tanses beds. I had a similar problem with a customer in PA. For some reason his other beds with Sig Plus & electronic starters are fine, just the Tanses beds get black!

There have been no problems with the Signature Series line of lamps.

Did you have electronic starters in the bed before using the Sig Plus?

It is common for the ends of 160w lamps to turn black. Your Tan America unit most likely does not have Electronic starters in it. We are talking about end blackening with electronic starters.

BSmart, no one ever claimed that the lamps would not get black, the starter manufacturer claimed that the starters will prevent end-blackening. Maybe you should contact the manufacturer of the starter!

How have those new Light Sources CCT lamps performed? They're supposed to exhibit little to no lamp end darkening.

Gene, The CCT will never get black ends. It is impossible!

The CCT has similar output to the Signature Series. We have had some trouble with electronic starters & the CCT. Although if you buy the CCT you won't need the electronic starter anyway!

The tan america bed uses a rapid start ballast with an extremely high open circuit voltage. The lamp will actually strike off the cup of the mount causing the cup material to be slightly burnt and causes a black ring around the cup area of the lamp. I have seen this on lamps made by 2 manufacturers using the enclosed filament like the cup cathode

Boy this reminds me of another post stating how much better magnetic ballasts are than choke...

Send me 4 dozen of the ccts and for my sundazzler and I GAURANTEE I'll get em to turn black WITH electric starters.
