Rep Power: 0 | I have a salon with 9 beds. Last summer was our first summer in this building, and we like to have burnt up. Our heat pump can not keep up with all this heat...My land lord is a real ....... and says we should foot the bill on upgrades. We walked into this business last year and purchased it from a lady who's husband had just died and she moved out of town, and were given the wrong impression of who would upgrade. Now being young, we just can't afford to shell out the 5 grand needed for this....any suggestions????? |

Rep Power: 25 | You have a real problem. Your landlord is right. He is not under any obligation to pay for more A/C for you. By the way, he is not a real.....what he is is right. Just because you don't like his answer does make him wrong. You either did not do enough research before jumping in and buying this salon or were lied to, either way you have a problem to deal with. If you have 9 beds and are running them enough to need more A/C then you are at least doing some business so that is on your side. Go talk to your banker and see if they will loan you the money. Call around to all of the A/C people in town and ask them if you can get a price on a scratch and dent unit, last years close out etc. They all have access to them. All you really need is about 5 tons of A/c and an air handler. You don't need another heating and A/C system. I put one in a couple of years ago and it was about $3500. It all varies from part of the country to part of the country though. Also look around in the want ads and see if someone has a used one for sale if you can't spring for the new one. |

Rep Power: 0 | My landlord is only supplying 4tons..I estimate another 5tons is needed..MY EXPENSE. But there is a solution . Do a Google search under 'portable air conditioning"..many firms supply portable/commercial grade units that are easiy installed, especially if you have room to place the unit(on wheels for most part). They will blow cool air into the salon..much cheaper than new install. Also, if you have exterior walls, see if the landlord would allow wall units, similar to what a motel room would have, be installed in the rooms where needed. |

Rep Power: 29 | I just had mine taken care of. I have 3 tons but it wasn't the AC. The airflow in the salon was so bad the it was running at like 40%. You may not even need to upgrade. Just have them put some returns in the hot areas of the salon. Bigger AC might just make your electric bill go up. |

Rep Power: 0 | You can also look in to a min-split ductless system. They are big in the Caribbean. The great thing about them is you can take them with you if you move. In addition, there is no need for a big hole in the wall. I know that Sanyo and Mitsubishi make them and I am sure there are others. Before you do anything take engfant's advice and have your system checked out by an hvac pro. |

Rep Power: 0 | I appreciate the info., I will look into all of this. I understand that it is my responsibility now, but at the time of signing the lease I feel like things were said just to encourage us to sign it for a while (several years left...) He is a very strict guy who does not give an inch. I guess that is how he has become a rich man... Thanks for all your help! |
