Rep Power: 0 | I know, I'm still a newbie and this is probably a really crazy question for all you novice alson owners, but all this wattage/amp stuff is sooo overwhelming and I can't get a 'straight' answer from any distributors, so I thought I'd come to you guys! My question is...Do all beds accomodate all higher watt bulbs without any special or updated wiring? i.e.: If you have beds with 100watt bulbs, coan you just change them out and just put in 140w, etc. or will this harm the bed or special wiring needed? Thanks. |

Rep Power: 21 | scoterbug Lamps are driven by ballasts. Ballasts determine what the lamp will do. It's not like a household light bulb. If you substitute a 160 watt lamp for a 100 watt lamp in a tanning bed driven by 100 watt ballasts, then the 100 watt ballast will drive the 160 watt lamp at 100 watts. This won't harm your bed, but it will harm the lamp. Ed _________________ [ This Message was edited by: ED S@URI on 2004-02-27 11:34 ] |

Rep Power: 0 | Thanks Ed. How do I find out what each beds ballast are and which beds will accomodate the higher watt bulbs? Does one just go by the compatibility sheets per company info or is there a way to upgrade/rewire etc? |

Rep Power: 21 | scooterbug Look in your manual, or the exposure/warning label on the tanning bed. No practical way to upgrade/rewire for higher wattge lamps. You can, however, use more effective/better/stronger lamps. Ed |

Rep Power: 0 | Depending on how closely you are regulated in your area you may run into non-compliance problems if you upgrade to higher wattage lamps. your equipment was tested and certified with a certain lamp/ballast combination and altering that may put you out of compliance. Again, whether or not this would be a problem would depend on local regulation and enforcement. |

It's not such a crazy question, I have been wondering the same thing, but, after some thought I realized that ballasts will run whatever you attach to them, but not efficiently. I'd love to do the same as what you are thinking and boost a bed or two to 120 or 140 watt lamps. Maybe we should both price some higher watt ballasts? |

Rep Power: 21 | I just finished a post on creativity with your beds, however I would not recomend getting to creative in this area. This is a good time just to go ahead and upgrade the bed. You are getting some good advice here and you should follow. I have clients who insist on running slightly higher bulbs than particular beds are running, their choice. I do not ever purchase units that I know are doing this and would not recomend anyone to do so. I have also seen people change all the ballast to accomodate their desires, again I do not purchase these either. Stick to the book in this area because your beds are expensive and can and should last you a verrrrrrrry long time. Do not tamper with them like this and plaese take good care of them. Oh yeah, if you do decide to do your own thing with the lamps do not ever hide that when you resale let people know what they are getting. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: playitagainenterprises on 2004-03-04 23:04 ] |

Rep Power: 22 | OK. You know what I find so wierd about the original post is that this person said she couldn't get a "straight answer" from any of her distributors. WHAT!! Who the **** are her distributors? |
