New Sunless machine recommendations - tanTALK

Hi all,

New to the industry as well as this board. Our old airbrush machine gave out on us, and we were wanting to replace it. We are leaning towards a HVLP machine, but there are so many out there that it is a bit daunting to try to find something that is a qualtiy product that is not too much. Having just recently taken over the salon, and this being off season we are trying to be a bit frugal, but we really need to get something going as we have had many requests for appointments. Can anyone give me some advice on what I should be looking for?

We went with Infinity Sun and it's worked out great for us. I'm sure there are many out there but this one was so user friendly compared to the others. The solutions are really nice and we get repeat customers all the time. It is a bit pricier but it didn't take long at all to pay for itself. :)

You will also get a lot of free publicity when the Sunset Tans new season starts next month with some episodes showing this system. :)

How does the Infinity Sun compare to Fantasy Tan?

sgoodin I'm sure they both have their good points. I've never tried Fantasy Tan but I had an estitician come to our salon to try ours. She told me she couldn't believe how much easier it was and really liked the color, she's been using the Fantasy Tan at a spa she works at. I have the Infinity Sun Spa. I think the Fantasy Tan one is probably more portable but not as good looking. Also it sounds like their solutions are priced high. I don't think blondie's been posting much but you can look her up and ask her how she's doing with Fantasy Tan.

I have the VersaSpa in my new salon. It is wonderful!! Clients do not have to towel dry off, and they have the option of being sprayed with 3 different types of spray. I have had no complaints! The bronzing solution reacts with the amino acids and proteins in your skin so it tans you how you would naturally tan. Check out their website Versaspasystem.com

Just to clarify, all of our DHA sunless solutions (not just the VersaSpa) react with the amino acids in the top, dead layer of the skin. You make it sound like VersaSpa invented the idea. Moreover, these solutions do NOT tan you how you would tan naturally, and it is misleading and irresponsible to say so. This is a cosmetic tan for all intents and purposes, it just looks better and lasts longer.

A natural tan involves UV, and there is no UV involved in this process, nor do you develop a "protective" tan as you would by tanning naturally. Of course, if you naturally tan by drinking formulas containing large doses of DHA and puking [see quote, below] on yourself on a regular basis, then I stand corrected. But I doubt that holds true for much of the population.

"In the 1950’s Eva Wittgenstein at the University of Cincinnati did further research with dihydroxyacetone [DHA]. Her studies involved using DHA as an oral drug for assisting children with glycogen storage disease. The children received large doses of DHA by mouth, and sometimes spat [up] or spilled the substance onto their skin. Healthcare workers noticed that the skin turned brown after a few hours of DHA exposure."
