Is there a way for a salon owner to take a bed that is certified for a longer time that what was done by the manufacturer and the FDA originally? I made an acquintance recently who claimed they can get any bed certified for a longer tan time, for about $300. Is this legit, or a crock? If it is accurate, how can this be?

Why would you want to? If you have a bed that provides 4 med's in 15 minutes why would you want to make it into a bed that provides 4 med's in 30 minutes? You will no longer be able to get more people through the door?

Am I missing something .. or are you asking can you take a bed that provides 4 med's in 15 minutes and allow the customer to tan for 30 minutes?

Tiki, I have no interest in doing this. I am asking if it is actually true or possible. Someone told me for $300 she can recertify a bed. I thought she was full of it, but someone else echoed this recently to me.
Think about it a little. There are a lot of unscroupulous operators who would do this. What if you wanted to put Hi-Tans in a 30' bed that only calls for a Vellarium lamp? A lot of salons do this kind of thing illegally. Think how bad it would be for our industry if they can fry customers and simply say "hey, it's legal. Here is my piece of paper saying I can do this. We met all the exposure schedules" (which they determine). There are broad ramifications from this if it is true.

Again, can this be done or is it bs?
Don can probably answer this. How do we contact him on this site?[ This Message was edited by: JAS on 2003-07-12 11:19 ]
