I like the looks of the Stand Ups that have acrylics. The look much nicer & cleaner. But many of these units have heat issues which can kill off the lamps early. I have seen some units warp or even melt acrylics.
With acrylics you will also have to replace them after about 2 years, due to solarization. The cleaning of these after each session has got to blow.

On the other hand the metal grates look like old-school, but they are less hassle.

Any other pros & cons?

John, The metal grates in the suncapsules are not bad at all (new suncapsules). There is only 4 screws on each panel that you need to loosen just a couple of turns and it comes right out. Advantage to me is easier to take care of, to change lamps and you really don't loose any uv transmission that you do with an acrylic. Just a thought. Jeff

The grates are much easier to change lamps, just wish they looked nicer!

to those with grates...don't you love cleaning out the body hair that gets burned onto the lamps? I mean all body hair. Acrylics make the most sense to me. The Bermuda Triangle has an exhaust fan that takes the heat away form the lamps and the client is only 7 degrees warmer than the salon temp.

I have 2 Hex booth for the past 5+ years with grates - no excess "body hair" or any other fuzzies. Go with the grates - no worries on santization and no replacement costs like acylics. I have never had one complaint only positive feedbacks

What about people touching the bulbs? Is this not a concern? I was told to wear gloves when working with the bulbs as any oil from the skin will shorten the life of the bulb.

engfant,

That is true with HP lamps, however that won't be a problem with LP lamps!

The quartz glass is very sensitive, if you touch the glass, the oil from your skin will leave a "HOT" spot on the lamp. Mercury will attract to it & cause a premature failure.

If you do touch it, or even after installing it, it is good to wipe them down with a alcohol wipe to remove any oils!

Definetly go with the grids. It is a much easier unit to keep clean. It has more total uv output then with an acrylic approx 6%. Never have to change aqcrylics. Runs just as cool for the customer also. I would never buy a standup unit with acrylics.

Yep, grids are the way to go. NO maintenance to speak of, no blocking of UV rays, more cooling for the lamps. SUNCAPSULE is the one.
