what is the purpose of using 140w. ballast and 160 w. bulbs? does this make the bed a 140w. bed or 160w. bed? if someone could give me some sort of explanation i would greatly appreciate it! thanks!

MARKETING-Pure Marketing. A lamp is only as strong as what is pushing it. A bed with 140 watt ballasts is a 140 watt bed.

BUT, the lamps are capable of handling 160W so they should last longer than their rated life if they are not being pushed to 160. Meter them and see if they stay strong longer than rated. The down side is they might not quite perform up to their design at 140W. The lamp won't produce quite the same results at this lower wattage.

Whatever the bed claims, it kicks ***. That bed has some strong facials, and for the price i would reccomed that bed to anyone. I give it 2 thumbs up, forget all the watts and that nonsence. So its the same strenght as the orbit, but tans 2x better. There you go

Bsmart is correct!

160 watt Lamps that are driven at 140 watts will not produce the results they should.

Much worse is the fact that they will not even produce the results that true 140-watt lamps should.

Ergo is a great looking bed, but other then the facials does not perform much better then a standard 100-watt bed.

Only plus side is the lamps will last longer.

However our job is to give clients a good result, and IMHO Ergo falls short.

I talked to Ergoline on Friday. They said they do use 140W ballasts but said something about the ballasts piggy backing off of one another so that the bulbs operate at their full 160W capability.

Does this sound correct? I dont know anything about how the ballasts work so i would like to here from someone with some technical knowledge on the subject. I am considering a 650 but am trying to get the facts on this whole ballast thing.

Keep in mind that any new bed with new tubes will tan. After 200 hours its a different story. Point being don't just test new beds-try it after the lamps have settled.

bjacph,
That answer you got is funny.

Please ask them to explain how that works.

Other beds claim to have 200w ballast, some do. But when you take 2 100w ballast & Piggy back them together, you lose 10% per ballast. So really you only get 180w.

a TRUE VHR bed should have ballast true to the lamps..a 140w ballast will power a 160wlamp,but the most you will get out of that is a 140w..yes, the 160w lamp may give you more life, but not quality..Ergo beds say thay have 160wlamps, but ballast are only 140..look at UWE/Sontegra/Mueller-Future Sun, for true ballast/lamp useage..ps..a 160w ballast could power a 140 lamp, but burn out comes fast. Ergo would SAY anything to get a sale..they will also tell you they will never sell your competitor the same bed..Only Sontegra is true to their word..I would look elsewhere..I tanned in the 650..was not impressed..the Silver Bullet. Giant Sun and Gen-x, are true beds.

To receive peak performance from fluorescent lighting it is essential that the fluorescent lamp ballast-the heart of the fluorescent fixture match precisely the requirements of the lamp it is designed to operate.

SoapKing is right on.
