It seems some salons have great response to stand up units and others very poor. I had a stand up in my 9 bed store and had to take it out and put in a 10 min bed because we couldnt get people in the stand up. I really like the stand up for the great tan. What about you???

Depending upon the area where you are located, will determin the strength of the vertical tanning population. Booths also serve as a good overflow for additional clients in the bussiest times, especially if there is a room consideration in your facility. The booth must have the ability to tan in 10 to 15 minutes and produce a noticable color change.

Problems with booths. Lets see...they take up too much space in a crowded salon, they make you sweat too much, it takes too long to get a tan, you tend to fall asleep in them, and the dressing room is way to large.

we have the Sundash radius 48 w/200 watt lamps. everyone that has used it says it tans great, and it has a great fan so you are cool, but we just couldnt get enough people in it to justify taking up a full size room. we are putting it in our new salon in a 5*7 space that couldnt be used for a bed. hopefully it will be a good addition, we will see after season.

How hard do you push the sales for the standup?
My clients don't really ask to use it but they do after I tell them it has a higher ratio of uvb light which will stimulate melanin production. I make sure they know in order to get the most of their high pressure session they need a standup session prior to.

What lamps are you using???? I was always under the assumption that my Cosmolux VHR lamps had a higher concentration of UVA compare to say Velocity's or Bermuda Gold's in my beds.

Am I backwards?????

Teresa, NO you are not backwards, at least not in your understanding of the Cosmolux lamps. They are very low UVB as you mentioned. They tan great! They do not stimulate the production of melanin, they oxidize it making it flow out smoothly to produce a nice even tan.

If you are having trouble getting people to use your standup, you need to change your marketing approach. You have to show people the advantages of using it vs. the other equipment you have. We focus on short stay time, no sweat, cool breeze, and no clostrophobia. Not to mention GREAT results! A large portion of our men like the idea of walk-in tanning. Offer a visit in it as a bonus to other packages you have to expose them to it. It will likely sell itself, after they use it one time.
