Have tried the following lamps and have not been that impressed so far.
cosmolux vhr
cosmolux vhr-tt,
heraus 20/160
light source signiture series plus-am testing right now seem ok with the limited hours on them.
All these lamps seem to last about 500 hrs. and the color seems the same from all of them so it would come down to price which heraus seems the best, wanted to know if philips has a good lamp out there to try,I have heard their filaments dont hold up that well

'52 Corvette:

Why didn't you like the VHR-TT?

We have found this sunlamp to be an excellent performer, both in the test stand and in our sunbeds.

Regarding lifetime, ours are still going strong (78 - 80% of new) at a little under 700 hours.

Corvette, if you aren't happy with the Cosmolux lamps, you're not likely to find anything to make you happy. These are high quality, and have performed very well for me. I am also trying the Signature Series now as a equivalent to the Cosmolux. I'm fairly satisified with them so far. But I don't think they are quite the lamp the Cosmolux is. I will be looking for another equivalent as you are after these. Keep us posted on your results.
Did you get my message on the Royal Sun bed?

Don
Its not that I don't like the vhr-tt,I just didn't see a difference in tanning ability and longevity.I have to go by my patrons responce not by meters I can tell them the meter tells me the lamps are still good but if they feel different I have to respond. If I put all these lamps in a big pot and the patrons don't see a difference and they all last the same I go with the least priced. My cosmolux lamps were actually burning out around 500hrs like the other lamps so why pay more when I can get it for less.I have no data on this but I think cosmolux is not the same as it used to be in the past,I was a cosmolux follower and would not change because my patrons could tell when I did,but now they can't tell what is in the bed.If cosmolux was price competetive, yes I would use them but why pay more when you don't have to.I am running these lamps in royalsun and tanses beds and yes I pump up the juice to about 240vac and I pump in 1.25 ton air in each room.

Corvette, my sentiments exactly. I really like the Cosmolux, except for the price. They seem to be a bit too proud of their name. I'm currently trying the Signature Series with good results. If I can get John at URI to cut a good price on the Cosmolux, I will give them another try.

Running your voltage at 240 is causing the 'early death' of your lamps. It's also hard on the other working parts of the bed. I know Royal Sun boast's the more voltage the better, but you can't deny too much power does have a negative effect. I had the same problem with with my SunCapsule. Lamps were dying prematurely, had to make a little voltage adjustment.

If the voltage is causing an early death of my lamps then why aren't my 100watt lamps dying early I just don't think this is the cause but maybe it is,but I talk to sooooo many other people who have the same problem and they don't have 10 volts higher,I will see if the power company can retap my transformer for 230vac and see if there is a difference, hope the patrons don't leave though.

Corvette,
Overvoltage will provide a noticable increase in tanning effect but bsmart is right it is very hard on components. The 160W series lamps are usually overrun at the 220 design voltage, pushing the lamps even further can cause shorter life. Most bed manufacturers run their 100W lamps at 100W and so the additonal voltage is not as significant.
Also if this is a choke and starter unit, pushing the lamps to 180 and 200W can cause premature failures. We expect to introduce the CLEO POWER STARTER this year to help these types of designs.

take a look at your starters a lot of manufacturers put 140 watt starters in 180 watt lamps. Most tanning beds only need 220 to 230 volts so its bad on the beds to go higher on the volts coming in to your beds.If everyone would try the electronic solar starters they would never have to try to find a good lamp.after all the stsrters is what starts your lamps and gives them the maximum output to the lamps.

the starter only starts the lamp going ,the ballasts and the capacitors and the voltage are what figure in to the equation of output and the design of the lamp of course that is why you can take a starter out of the circuit after the lamp is lit and everything still runs.I would love to try some of the new electronic starters if they would come down in price.by the way dr. mueller suggests running beds at 250 vac .
