I need some advice. I am currently running Sun Capsule VHR's with Cosmolux 160w reflector bulbs. I am wondering if there is another bulb I can try...I like these but lately I find they are not the same. They are tanning fairly well but blowing out quickly, have replaced starters so it's not that. I am a real bulb idiot so I'm looking for some advice.

Thanks,
Stacey

Can you use non reflector bulbs , they are a lot better price and you can choose from 2% uvb to 8.9.

Stacey,

Try Interlectric lamps, I have had them in for about 300 hours and they are still kickin butt.

Interelectric are junk. Might as well tan in a toaster oven. Are the lamps that are blowing out on the door only? Does your SunCapsule have the fan switch on the door to disconnect the fan when you open the door to prevent it from slamming shut from the fan suction? This is on the newer booths and can be ordered from Sun Capsule to retrofit booths that are not equipped with the switch. Has your incoming voltage changed? The power company may have made changes in your area and they don't notify their customers. Check it before and after the buck booster if you have one installed. 230 volt is optimum so high or low voltage will need to be corrected with a buck booster. Don't use non reflector lamps in that unit. The output will suffer drastically. The refletors in the unit are not highly polished and it was designed to produce maximum output using reflector lamps.[ This Message was edited by: Brian Oshman on 2002-07-22 13:28 ]

Thanks for the info. I do have the fan switch on 1 of my booths, not the other 3 as they are older...maybe I should look in to this. Voltage has not changed either, I checked this. How often should I change my starters? I have been changing them every time I change bulbs but I am wondering how long they are suppose to last? Some of the blow outs are on the doors, but not all. I really like the cosmolux VHR reflector it just doesn't seem to be lasting as long as they used to...they tan great, great color too.

Stacey, Cosmolux has been having trouble with their 160W VHR for some time now. They started producing a 200W lamp to use in their 9 minute SunCapsules. In October of 2001 they redesigned the cathode of these 200W lamps to lengthen their life. I've had the same trouble with lamps dying prematurely. If you are rotating 20 lamps at a time, the older ones always end up on the door, so you would expect them to fail instead of those on the front panel. I have still had some failures at about 400 hours with the new design lamp, so I don't think they've got the problem compeletly solved. You ought to give them a call and see if they can offer you some help.

You're in Canada so you can ask me about the new Heraeus #23/160's reflective lamp using the very best glass in he industry for a much greater UVA transmission... greaaaat browning effect.
