I run 20/100 and 20/160's in all my beds my 100watt lamps seem to be ok I have lost a few early burn outs but my 160's are going like popcorn at about 550 hrs. I know 160's should be changed early and usually I top swap at 250 hrs. which would mean my bottoms are trashed at 500 hrs. but I tried alittle longer and it is not good .I have some lamps heraus lamps with 300 hrs. and I am replacing the burnouts with them and they seem ok does or has anyone seen this problem this sucks please HELP.

550 hours is great for a 160 watt lamp!
You should be getting many 10 min. sessions with the 160 watts.
Most 160 watts are used in 10 min booths.

What brand are the 160W lamps that are failing at 550 hours? Typically they should run longer than that, but they will not continue to perform up to par much past 600 hours. Your customers will notice decreased output around 550-600 and become unhappy anyway. You should be able to squeeze out 600 hours though. Maybe something in the circuit thats giving marginal performance. Is the bed adequately ventilated? Have you measured your incoming power/voltage to the bed? What brand of bed is it?

We have also found that the Heraeus lamps are failing faster than the Cosmolux.

We switched to H last year and have since gone back to C. In my opinion, there is not a better lamp than the Cosmolux VHR. The color these lamps produce is far superior.

I need to add:

The color from Heraeus lamps is WONDERFUL at first, but after just a short time, they change quickly in output.

550 hours is good? actually great.

When Hereaus lamps were first introduced they had an actual warranty on them of like 700 hrs.

That was quickly shot down.

Is it a good idea to top drop on all beds? I've not done this before, but I know that it's done & even the lamp reps have suggested it.

I don't mind lamps losing their output but going out is a different story and by the way the uv output is still good but they are burning out.I don't need a solarmeter to tell me when a lamp is burned out.I guess I need to be greatful for this many hours but it seems Don Smith gets alot more hours than this.[ This Message was edited by: corvette on 2002-05-23 05:46 ]
