Tantalkers:I know that the following information won't help on a busy day but it may help you to better understand what goes on in your sunbeds. We tested a 20 minute MTI (maximum timer interval) sunbed and we previously found that if you allow only a 3 minute "recovery time" (RT) before the next use, you lose approximately 10% efficiency ( a 20 sunbed, therefore, takes 22 minutes to reach 4.0 MED); a 10 minute RT reduces it to 5%; a 20 minute RT reduces the loss to approximately 2%; and a 30 minute RT allowed the unit to perform as it did in the first session. Therefore, for maximum output (irradiance) try to rotate use of your sunbeds so that the maximum "recovery time" (cool down period) possible is allowed. Also, as mentioned previously, ALWAYS monitor your lamps the same standardized way. We monitor ours in the morning before they have been used and measure them 5 minutes into a 20 minute session (25% of other times).Hope this helps you all better understand what is going on with sunbeds and lamps.Don

The tanning bed design leads to a big over heating problem, well designed tanning booths don't have this problem. The exposed vertical lamps and large fans prevent over heating and some booths have the cooling fans run after the lamps turn off to further cool the ballast and lamps between session.
It is important to cool the ballasts as well as the lamps, most if not all tanning beds have no cooling for the ballasts at all.
