This time of year is a good time to take your equipment apart & clean it completely. What's the best way to do this & exactly what all do you need to clean or replace?

i recommend a throrough cleaning 2 times a year, with periodic vaccuuming, cleaning in between..."slow season" (NOW) would be an ideal time for cleaning...or, as a matter of convenience, when you relamp. you've already got the bed down..so it makes sense.

take a meter reading of your lamps with the acrylic on, then with the acrylic off. if you see a 20% difference or more... clean the acrylic, front and back, use novus plastic polish (or another acrylic safe polish) if necessary to remove haziness, scratches. take another reading...acrylic on/acrylic off... replace acrylic if necessary.

vaccuum and remove all debris from all fans. this insures that your unit will stay properly cooled...preventing any electrical failures due to overheating

replace any filters if necessary. some people just vaccuum them out or toss them in the washer. they are cheap: BUY NEW ONES!

clean reflectors with mild cleaner. highly diluted.

inspect all bed cords for nicks, frays, etc. replace any that may be suspect to future failure. save you a world of headache later.

replace any loose connections that may cause problems later on.

replace starters (if your unit uses them) while you're inside. unless you just replaced them.

as far as the best way to do it...that varies by the type of equipment you have. some units are easier to get into and put back together than others...

shop vac works wonders...you should really clean acrylics every 50 hours or so and do the beds like every 100 hours this keeps them spotless and makes a big impression to the new client that came from the $hole down the street and is used to lookin @ pubic hair in the canopy and figured all salons are the same, the see your beds spotless and say "humm maybe 8 bucks a session is worth it after all" try it

We try to do this one a month or put the beds on a rotation. One bed a week. So, at our salon they each get a thorough cleaning once every seven weeks.
