Rep Power: 24 | I have read serveral different ways to measure the life of my bulb. 1. While bulbs are new measure with a UVA tester and discard bulbs when they have been used 60%2. Use the bulbs until 600 hours have been documented on the bed for HO units.3. Put 50 hours on the bulbs and measure with UV tester and discard when 25% more use has been put on the bulbs. What is the right way that will be a win-win for the customer and salon owner.Thanks------------------Tommy Lowery |

Rep Power: 26 | Tommy:I prefer the UVI (Ultraviolet Index) meter or the MED/hour meter but the UVA/UVB meter can be used. Here is the protocol we use.Standardize the measurements:a. Read them 1st thing in the morning.b. Read the lamps 5 minutes into the tanning session.c. Read the canopy at a point above the sternum (chest).d. Read the canopy at a point 25 centimeters above the bench. (I Use a cheap plastic ruler.)e. Read the bench at the acrylic below the poing where you read the canopy.Following the above will let you read the lamps the same way each time.We change our lamps when they have lost 30% of their original output. For instance, if the new lamps read 20 UVI units, we will order new lamps when they reach 16 (80%) and change them when they reach 14 (70%). Cosmedico lists 800 hours as the expected "life" of their excellent VHR lamps but we have had "lot numbers" that have lasted 900 hours, 1000 hours and one batch that lasted over 1100 hours. A meter will, therefore, pay for itself very quickly. All meters can be converted to MED/minute and you can divide this number into 0.75 MED to get the initial session time; into 1.0 MED to get the time that an untanned individual will sunburn; and into 4.0 MED to get the time it will take to obtain the maximum allowable (by FDA) UVR irradiation. You should be aware that many so-called 20 minute lamps take 24 - 26 minutes to reach 4.0 MED.Call me at (888) 994-3828 (toll free in the USA and Canada) if you have questions.Don |
