So if the blue glass blocks UVB when there is no clear glass, how come it doesn't block it when there is a clear glass. How come it only works as a heat shield??Something sounds kinda fishy!!! |

Rep Power: 0 | The clear glass acts as the main UVB filter. Not all blue glass is the same. There are many types available with different output curves so don't try to replace one type with another. Keep the machine setup how the manufacturer built it. |

If they all came that way then leave them that way. I will find documentation for you on clear glass. Trust me, it is a filter, not just a piece of glass. Using MUG6 for the blue glass is pretty common in todays systems. The color of the glass has no bearing on the filtration properties of it. UV light is invisible to the eye. |

Rep Power: 0 | Well everyone, i did some deep investigating today on the clear glass and the blue filter glass. We have to give credit where credit is due, to Brian, He was right about the clear glass blocking out UV rays. It seems that the clear glass blocks out the UVC rays and the blue filter glass blocks out the UVB and some UVA. Some different manufacturers install different filter glass that let as much as 2% to 3% UVB thru, which shortens the tanning time considerably. They make MUG2, MUG4 and MUG6 filter glass. MUG6 is the most common glass used.So Brian, we all apologize for not really believing you.Jon Jonestantechs@home.com[This message has been edited by tantech (edited 05-11-2001).] |
