Question buy new or used beds?

Hi, looking at starting a business in my area. When researching beds, I'm unsure of the pros and cons between new and used beds. It seems you can buy a used bed for a heck of a lot cheaper, but what really are the downfalls? Obvious ones would be needing new bulbs, and having them in working order...but how old is too old?

Re: buy new or used beds?

There is NO REASON to buy new right now. WAY too many good deals to be had on used stuff.

In MY opinion a 1000hrs on a tanning bed is like 10,000 miles on a car.

^^^^^^^Yeh what that guy said.

BUY USED. There are many great deals to be had. At the end of the day you make just as much money on a good used bed vs a brand new one. You can buy a good used bed for 30-50% less then you could buy the same bed new.

Re: buy new or used beds?

Agree with the two posts above. Always plan on the expense of relamping any used bed unless you know for a fact that new lamps were just installed. You may also need to budget for an acrylic or two also.

Make it 4 for 4 on buying used. Make sure you buy from a reliable source and buy the best equipment you can afford.

Re: buy new or used beds?

What they all said. The money you save will outweigh any failure of a bed part. Basically they are lighting fixtures with fans. Little can go wrong and if something does its not too difficult or expensive to repair. Even if you have to replace the computer on a used bed you buy you will still come out thousands ahead.

Re: buy new or used beds?

Thanks everyone!

I was looking at some beds that were 8 years old, but I wasn't sure if that was too old, or if the newer beds had any specific qualities that an older bed wouldn't provide.

Do you find that customers are picky when it comes to the difference between new and used? I know as a customer myself, I can't tell if the bed is really new or used.

Re: buy new or used beds?

Varies widely by the brand as well as how well they were kept up.

In 8 years --- SOME brands/looks are almost the same. SOME have changed wildly!

Some look "dated", some have yellowing or cracking plastics, some companies have gone out of business and it can be harder to find parts.

Others are as good as the day they were made!

In the end - it all depends. But SOME are definitely still worth investing in!
