I just purchased my salon and I have a question about where to place our lotion display.
The previous owners had it displayed on a few glass shelves on the wall behind the reception desk. I know many salons put the lotion there. But my favorite salon, which I used for years before we moved, had it displayed on the wall just in front of the reception desk.
I loved that I could pick up the bottles and read the back and see the design up close. If I had questions about the lotion, the tanning consultant would come out from behind the desk and answer them. There was something very personal about her coming out from behind the desk and looking at bottles with me as opposed to reaching behind her and handing me a bottle while standing behind the huge desk.
When I mentioned to the current owner that I was planning on changing the lotion placement and putting it in front of the desk, she said that was asking for trouble and people would steal bottles.
If a consultant is in back cleaning a bed, its just as easy to go behind the desk and steal as it is to steal from in front of the desk. We also have 2 security cameras that run 24/7 and we have signs that let people know this.
I'd really appreciate any thoughts or comments on where to place my lotion display as well as any experiences with lotion theft.

Mine are like you describe the way you're wanting to do. Never had a missing bottle. Just put 2 or 3 of each on the shelf at all times and you'll always know if anything is missing.

My display is out on the floor. I strongly felt that this would increase sales. People could use their senses along with the help from staff to make their purchase decisions. We do have security cameras, we have had a lot of theft, we have also caught, recovered, and charged for all product.

We're all sales detectives ;)
