Dear Newbies:

Please do yourselves an incredible favor by taking care of your books monthly, if not weekly.
Let me share - I have now been open 13 months. I had my Corporate Accountant file an extension for our 2007 business taxes and our 2007 personal taxes. I have saved all of my receipts/invoices and bank statements like a good little girl, but not in any particular order, or any any particular room of my house or office for that matter. So now, I am absolutely scrambling to get all this info. together and into Quickbooks in order to complete a P&L for 2007 so that we can file our corporate taxes because my husband (who was supposed to be in control of all this) is yelling at me to get going on the personal taxes because we paid for everything in the business personally. Then, I have to close out 2007 and begin working on 2008!!! I'll never let this happen again. I've owned several businesses and this has never happened before.
How's that?! If you could not possibly figure out what the heck I'm trying to say, please refer to the first sentence.

Frustrated, annoyed and needing a BIG Margarita ~Elise.

Re: Dear Newbies:

you don't enter every transaction into a MS Money or Quickbooks? You have to go out of your way to get audited these days. Don't give em a reason to do so!

I could have died!!! Spent the next 2 full weekends doing that (even though I had done it manually just not in QB)..argh for sure!! Know better now..and every day I am inputting..a tad time consuming, but its a part of my daily routine now..

Re: Dear Newbies:

I am SO trying to learn Quickbooks. For 12 years of running different businesses I've done everything in Excel. I'm using a new accountant (local here - I moved 7 years ago) who suggested Quickbooks to me and I have to admit it looks like a A LOT of stuff I don't need. But I'm learning. Slowly.

But you are correct - I try to enter everything daily - if nothing else I have a pad I carry around and remind myself to enter it over the weekend. It took me until this year to do 2005 and 2006 taxes because I got slack and fell behind. :(

This is why I haven't filed on time in 18 years. If I did now I would get an audit!

But the stress does kill me.

Red face Re: Dear Newbies:

When my Husband and I owned our gymnastic center, my former accountant taught me Quickbooks. I had to back up monthly's on a disk and take that disk to him at the end of the month. He was always telling me what I had done wrong. (Guess he wan't that great of a teacher.)
I wanted to throw that Quickbooks CD in the air and shoot it trap style!
Does anyone here use PeachTree? That's what I had initially learned on in 1992. I think I was smarter back then.
I've purchased Bookkeeper 2008 for a fraction of the cost of Quickbooks. It brags to be very simple. (We'll just see about that!) I've entered almost everything I need to work with and I'll let you know what I think of the program.

I'm almost done with 2007! Wow, this has been a learning experience. I will absolutely never again let this get behind the 8 ball.

Thanks for not yelling at me for my outright stupidity Engfant!

Re: Dear Newbies:

So are you saying Bookkeeper 2008 in easier than Quickbooks?

Re: Dear Newbies:

so you don't pay your acct to do that work for you. from your posts, sounds like you do pay them for bookkeeping and accting. i mean you don't give them all the raw papers for the month and let them calculate and reconcile? isn't that what they get paid to do? why are you doing it? or do you just pay them to do your returns? confused? sounds like you may be doing more than you need to. work smarter, not harder. isn't that why you hired them?

If it was a post about 50 bronzers and fake boobs then you would have felt it. I take reality seriously.
