Red face remembering client's names

I am TERRIBLE at remembering names...I am going to be using a computer instead of cards, any tips on remembering a client's name? I know it does make a difference, thanks!

Re: remembering client's names

Great question! Not that many people take the time to learn their customers' names ... unless they want to sell them something, keep them as a customer, or just genuinely LIKE them! Before y'all get your BVDs in a twist, what I mean is that so many people that staff the businesses we deal with are only interested in our last name, or CUST ID#, what are our problem/need is, and the fastest way to solve our problem/get rid of us! hehe ~Think about that for a minute~ The best way to learn someone's name is to look at their eyes, say their name back to them (Like this: You- Hi! Thanks for coming in today! So good to see you again! Please tell me your name again? Cust- Hi! I'm Joan Dough! You- Hi, Joan! Dough? Is that as in "Bambi's mom", or "pre-bread"? ~Guffaw by both~ SMILE at them when you say their name. Have the feeling that they are going to be your very best customer ever and that you have known them all your life, and you will remember them, and their name every time they come in. There are also those people that are creatures of habit and come in at the same time, on the same day ... you can set your watch by them. That is a huge help, too. When they miss, or are late, you can use their name and say, hey, WTF? You're late, or what happened to you the other day? Customers love this! Any time you remember somebody's name or know their habits it tells them you "care" about them, and this makes people "feel good" about doing business with you. There are going to be times when you forget, or brain fart when somebody comes in, but don't fret, just repeat the steps and it will reinforce your memory. As a side note, it's always good to get your customer smiling and saying "yes" to mundane things ... it puts them in the mood to say "yes" to your sales proposals.

Hope this helped. Best of luck to you. -Belvedere

Re: remembering client's names

I used to be really good at remembering my clients names. Tell me once and it was set. But for some reason, once I hit 40, I can't remember squat!!! It is VERY irritating! But, my kids love it. They are saying more and more, "No Mom, you said I could!" :(

Re: remembering client's names

I have over 400 clients in my mobile business, some are regulars some are tourists just in town for a wedding. I just try and remember names.

when I make the appointment I write the full name in my appointment book

when I get handed back the release I read their name again and write it once again on their reciept

when I get back to the office, I put it in the computer and file it.

So I've basically looked at the name 5 times at least and it helps when they call again to schedule, the name is at least familiar to me so I can act like I know them.

Re: remembering client's names

we have a sign in sheet and sometimes i cheat and look at their name as they are writing it. usually i can remember first names but not last names. it sucks because we use last names to look them up in the system. but it really does help to remember their names. makes them feel special. and i also personally say something to them when they leave and use their first name.

Re: remembering client's names

belvy is correct you need to say their name outloud to them. Associating something with them is also a big help...a story, common friend, their car something that makes you think of them.

on the other hand if you cant remember their name, dont feel bad most dont expect it.

Try this when you forget....im sorry how do i spell your last name again? LOL works like a charm

i had a old client come in the other day. her name was on the tip of my tongue. i knew i knew her and when she was finished smoking her cigarette outside it came to me. she was like i dont remember my number i said we dont use numbers we go by your name its Christine LAxxxxR right! Her face dropped then when i typed it into the computer mine did too...she hadntt been her in 3 yrs! But i remebered her becuase she had a baby around the same time me and my wife did and we talked about that when she was in one time. She had only tanned 5 times, but that 1 conversation is all it took.
