Smart Tan - Yay or Nay?

I tried to do a search on this and came up with hundreds of unrelated threads (even with "smart tan" I was pulling up everything with "smart" and "tan" in it - and let me tell you, that's a BOATLOAD of threads....).

The "competition" salon has a certificate but isn't showing up on the tanning salon database where they supposedly list your salons. I really can't tell what services you get for your membership fee other than some posters and DVDs - it seems like you need to fork out a whole lot more to get the full training.

I'm planning on attending the show in Nashville - should I just wait until then?

I would probably wait for the show and take full advantage of what they have to offer.

are you regulated? We are and if you go to the state inspectors (dept of radiation) website, you can get a listing of all authorized certification courses and contact information.

I checked the GA codes on LexisNexis in regards to tanning salons and see no required training - more just what signage needs to be, minors, proper construction, etc. Thankfully I know all is done in those regards. Heck, it's all basic common sense but of course, that needs to be regulated too ;)

The Department of Radiation either doesn't apply to tanning salons, or I need to get a bachelor's degree really fast!!

Looks like GA wants to crack down though:

But it seems like that popped up in 2006 too - maybe it's a pork type committee for now.

I signed up for the Smart Tan Training in Nashville just because I want to learn it even if it's not required by the state.

good luck woodlands...I don't know about other states, but here it is the NC Dept of Radiation Protection that regulates, but their homepage has a link for tanning salons

Re: Smart Tan - Yay or Nay?

Another bonus to being certified is more often than not once certified you can get a discount on your salon insurance. That alone would make it worth it to me. The last time I heard anything I heard 10% off for being Smart Tan Certified.
