Re: Opening a tanning salon
I haven't had much time to post this week. It's the busiest week for the year for us. I hope to respond late tonight. :)

Re: Opening a tanning salon
Nick -
There is a wealth of information on this site, and if you haven't already, your best bet would be to read and read and read and read!! After that, it will point you to some more specific questions you may have. Generally, I'm sure you are aware of the current economic issues in Michigan. Be aware that tanning is generally considered a "luxury" business and has been hard hit for several years for a variety of reasons, but any place with a rough economy as much of Michigan has now can be particularly sketchy to try to open up any new business, let alone a seasonal, luxury-based one like tanning. This time of year, you might be best off going around to salons in the area where you are thinking of opening and talking to them to see if they are interested in selling. There will probably be quite a bit of fall out during this off season (July-Dec) and you may find a diamond-in-the-rough for far less than it will cost to start something up from scratch. Note - from scratch, plan on anywhere from 150K - 350K investment --- probably much closer to the high side than low side. I know Michigan well (grew up there, have set up several salons in that market) and would be glad to talk to you about it further if you want. Now start digging in and reading! :-) Ann

Re: Opening a tanning salon
Study, study, study. How long have you been studying on this industry? Go around and look at other businesses in this industry 1st compare then take notes. Check and see if the best one you like is selling. Money talks or in this industry someone willing to take over talks. Talk to alot of people on this forum and other forums again study, study, study.

Re: Opening a tanning salon
I am in Michigan, and wanting to sell my salon. We would like to move south this fall. Had a woman interested, but she wanted to hire a manager and still reap big bucks while not working the salon. The only way you can make it , is to work your own salon. I have 10 beds and 2 booths. Have been in business 10+ years.
