Tanning salon in the caribbean?

Hi all... my first post here... I recently moved back to the caribbean after living most my life in the states. I've been here about 6 months now, and there is a world of opportunity for small businesses to strive here. Beauty and fashion are also big on the island, due to carnival seasons and the modeling opportunies.

I want to raise the standard here and think a tanning salon would do well.. if done right, so I've been doing some homework. There are 2 tanning salons on the island. One salon has 1 bed in a run down mall, while another tanning salon has 2 beds, plus a spray bed, located in a basement with terrible parking access.

I was curious what your thoughts were in opening a salon in a mall? It would be in a location close to the entrance/exit of the mall. I've been looking at strip malls, or stand alone locations.. but they're in terrible conditions. I wouldn't pay an electric bill if I opened a salon in the mall I'm thinking. Plus I'd have the benifit of networking... I have family that own businesses in the mall.. such as retail, beauty, and hair.

How many beds could I fit into 1200 sq ft?

How well are tanning salons doing in locations with warm climates?

And am I crazy for entertaining the thought of a tanning salon in the mall close to the entrance/exit?

Any help or concerns would be greatly appreciated :)

Aloha Islandtanner9
We opened a tanning salon on the northshore of Oahu Hawaii. And we're doing ok, it's not going to buy us a house on the beach but it's fun (as a second buis.). It's something the wife and I can do together and have fun with it.
What I did was figure out our demagraphic of tanners and 1/3 that out to what to expect and we're coming pretty close to that.
We started with 2 nice 32 lamp base beds added a stand up and after a year added a 12min. unit. That being said 1200 sq. ft. might be a bit big (all depends on your demographics).
Best of luck, and Aloha,
