Re: Why sanitize a tanning bed?
Well, ok, I guess I'll weigh in as well. Lambert, (or should I call you Mr. John? - but I digress! hehe Just a little joke that probably nobody but me is laughing about) ignore the slings and arrows, and just ask the questions. Some idiot once said to me, "The dumbest question ever asked, was the one where I ...", I forget the rest of what he said now; I think I got distracted by something shiny at that point. The point is, you should always ask your question here - you always get some sincere answers mixed in with the slams.
To answer your question: Leprosy. Leprosy is the reason that tanning beds must always be thoroughly sanitized after each and very tanner has thouroughly used the tanning device. It's also a law in most states, parishes, prefectures, municipalities, townships, counties, and burroughs; just to name a few. The third reason is that it gives you a chance to step out from behind the counter and good a really good look at what the butts of your customers' look like without clothes on. Of course, you will always have those "modest" few that don't leave their butt print on the acryllic (but even this gives you an accurate image of them in their selected panty style). Ok, seriously. Tanning equipment is clasified as a, what is it, Class 3 medical device? Given that it is classified as such, its care and use falls under the watchful eye of the local Health and Human Services Dept. which mandates that all such medically classified devices will be sanitized and utilized in conformance with scientifically established protocols. That's the long way of saying, "Just do it or we'll shut your *** down!" hehe. I mean, seriously, the scientific and medical experts have already told us we can't "catch" anything serious from a tiolet seat, right? And everybody knows, (at least some Americans do) that bacteria cannot exist and replicate in a highly lit, dry, environment - like a tanning bed. They prefer a dark, moist, warm environment to do their business; like your crotch, throat, ears, nose/sinuses, urethra, and rectumus, etc. hehe Uh, hope this helped. Good luck out there. -Belvy

Re: Why sanitize a tanning bed?
Oh yeah, between your gums and teeth! Another breeding ground for bacterial infection - hello root canal! hehe

Re: Why sanitize a tanning bed?
It's very simple. YOU DON'T KNOW what people have. Better safe than sorry is all it is. You never really hear about people catching anything from tanning beds/gyms/bathrooms or any public place but we still clean. Same reason you clean anything.
The end.

Re: Why sanitize a tanning bed?
gosh you have to sanitize everytime someone uses a bed! There are so many nasty things you could catch from someone else's sweat. YUCK!!!! Please use a good bed cleaner like lucasol or acrylisafe!

Re: Why sanitize a tanning bed?
I'm amazed that some salon owners defend their "community eyewear" practices.
.... but that is a different topic. "Community eyewear" is just as dumb as not sanitizing acrylics after every use.

Re: Why sanitize a tanning bed?
Ok, ok, I guess I wasn't clear. My question was aimed toward trying to differentiate between cleaning the bed with Windex or something like that, vs. sanitizing the bed. I would never let my customers lay in a pool of sweat. My plan was always to clean the bed after each use, you know, wipe it down nice and clean, yada yada. But sanitizing is a whole other deal. And all I was trying to do was understand why you should sanitize the bed on top of regular cleaning. I got it now, loud and clear. So I'm through bending over, and I'm going to walk away slowly. Thanks all.

Re: Why sanitize a tanning bed?
Quote:
The way you pose the question it SOUNDS like you would use windex and such to clean the bed between each client and then sanitize it once a day, week, whatever. Again, regular cleaning of the outside of the bed is fine. Everyone does that. But any surface the client comes in contact with should be sanitized (not cleaned) after each use. Thats the upper and lower acrylics, the control pad, the handle, etc...
