As someone considering getting into the tanning salon business, I'm wondering what a typical day is like behind the scenes at a tanning salon. In other words, what do you owners/employees do first thing when you get to work, then the rest of the day behind the counter? Do you turn on the beds? Fire up the computers? Manage the books? Change bulbs? Manage people? Sanitize the beds? Any marketing efforts? Etc.
As a customer, I've seen what goes on in front of the counter, but what typically goes on behind the counter? Thanks for your help.

8:30am, wake up and shower. Cant afford breakfast, so to the salon.
8:50am, open salon, start up computers and sit in chair.
9:12am, telemarketer call
9:45am, thinking I should dust the waiting bench off, ya... gonna go do that.
1:10pm, get dust rag.
1:35pm, telemarketer call - same one as before, idiot.
2:00pm, first client, yay! Oh, but they bought a package last year so no $
3:00pm, hit up vending machine for some Famous Amos cookies. Ever have those, they are really great. Oh crap, dont have 50 cents.
3:07pm, telemarketer call
5:00pm, starting to get hungry.
5:03pm, telemarketer call
5:07pm, telemarketer call
5:14pm, telemarketer call
5:42pm, telemarketer call
5:52pm, another client but she talks too much and I have things to do, remember the bench?
6:05pm, staring at those yummy cookies behind the plexi glass. Wonder if I can break it out? Hmmmmm... really could use some Famous Amos cookies.
7:09pm, write note to remind myself to dust bench before I leave
7:18pm, **** that plexi is tuff!
7:19pm, telemarketer call - they always call when I am busy!
7:45pm, write note to remind myself to dust bench first thing tomorrow!
8:00pm, shutdown and head home.

There is no such thing as a typical day in a tanning salon. Every day is an adventure! I never know what I'm going to come up against! lol

All those things you listed, yes I do them and more everyday (except for the relamping obviously). You have to be able to multi-task.

I never said business is bad. Both my salons' sales are up from ly, plus it's the middle of busy season. But there is a lot of work that goes into running a salon properly; it's not a cake walk like most would believe.

Gosh, can anybody give me a straight answer on this post? I know it's not a cakewalk; that's why I'm asking about it. I was told tantalk was a great place to get help, but you guys are just kind of mocking my post. That's not what I expected from a group of professionals. But I guess it is what it is. Thanks guys.
