Re: My first question

i have to disagree with you about darque tan. i do however agree with robbie; it is a bad idea to open a salon near a darque tan.. i know of quite a few smaller tanning salons they have put out of business.

Re: My first question

I know this is week late, but it is May which has turned into the biggest month of the year so weekends only.

I would not prefer to open next to Darque Tan, but I do believe you can still make money. I am in the DFW market and trying to open a location that doesn't compete with Darque Tan, Palm Beach Tan, or last, but certainly not least Planet Tan is next to impossible. The nice thing is the hornets nest has always been stirred up in DFW so if you want to make a good living you have to have good systems and create great experiences. Although it interesting to see how the battle of the two DT and PT work out both will out perform per location PBT.

Just for the record I've only met Robby once and I worked for Tony Hartle for a year when he was just getting going and I have the utmost respect for both, Thanks guys for keeping us on top of our game and good luck!

Re: My first question

There are many opinions and strong ones at times in this forum.... which makes it so great. Great posts...SunSally!! Personally, when Robby talks I listen.....he is after all doing something right ,even if I am not in agreement at times. I have ran with many of his "ideas" presented in various venues. Anything worth having is worth working for and my attitude is success each day. Nothing wrong with learning and in this business when the attitude is all about sharing....how great is that?!!

Re: My first question

This is an interesting thread, I certainly don't want to change the direction of this thread. I would like to make a comment about what a successful salon is made up of. We are selling the tanning experience not the tan. I is important to have a solid business model the creates the best possible experience. This is made up of many things but most importantly packaging, Great equipment, fresh lamps, effective easy to understand affordable pricing, well trained courteous staff and a beautiful salon. Consistent effective advertising, and constant communication with your clients. With that having been said i think wee should all agree that Darque tan has built it's success on these principals. Robbie is very successful and this success can be achieved by others as long as they understand how a successful game is played.

Re: My first question

Principle are principles Steve, but there is something to be said for the skill of execution.

To continue your sports metaphor, a "successful game" requires successful players. Every one on the court knows the principles to win, but not everyone is capable of making that final shot at the buzzer.

It's skill, that I believe, makes all the difference.

That is where the proper and consistent training of your staff comes in. Operating a successful tanning salon is not rocket science. If you have a great business model as you do and the staff to follow through, success can be achieved.

Re: My first question

I wasn't referring to the skill of the staff. I was referring to the skill of the owner.
