Don't buy beds before you have a complete plan!!!

These posts are proof that there is so much more to what makes a salon successful. Equipment choice is only one small part of the equation.

UWE Equipment with less than 100 hours!!!
Soltron Equipment - less than a year old!!
Nearly New Tan America Equipment!!

Re: Don't buy beds before you have a complete plan!!!

AGREE!!!

Now - I WILL say that none of these were originally "my clients". They were clients of Highline's solicited or set up by my predecessor. One of the things that happens at Highline now is I really try to work with salon owners to make sure they have what they need to be SUCCESSFUL - which is more than "just" leasing or great equipment! Of course -- not everyone wants to listen!

Make sure that anyone you put on your "team" - from your lender/leasing agent, to equipment salesperson, to everyone else is really HELPING you be successful! And if ANY of them tells you "hmmm, maybe you should consider slowing down a little or waiting another year until you get more money together" - DO. Ask for their advice, insight and feedback -- they may save you from some hard lessons!

Also - when you CAN find some great used equipment - maybe to blend with some new pieces - consider it! Keeping your costs low is the name of the game!

This is so true, I am very happy to hear a salon owner say this. There many steps to opening and operating a successful salon. To give yourself the Best opportunity for success you should have a complete proven plan that has shown to be successful. The plan should address every element of opening a successful salon. You have worked hard to put yourself in a position to be a business owner. Work smart so that you can be a successful business owner.

I would go as far as to say that i would not buy any new tanning equipment. Buy used tanning equipment. So many tanning salons have gone out of business or needed cash, so they sold their equipment. That's my advice for any newbie thinking about entering the troubled indoor tanning industry.
