is this a good idea?

I do wanna ask, and I know it varies... but looking around at the area within 4 cities nearby and a population of a little over 100K (NW Indiana area), there are probably 30 salons... eek!!! give a take a few.. some have only a few beds while others have quite a few beds and such. I know some fail and some succeed but I wanna know your opinions. I do have an investor(s) that is willing to fork out the money to get things moving. Soooo...is it good to open up a salon with about 12 beds.. lay down, stand up, spray tan (or cosmetic tanning ;) some call it )?

are there other things you might do to help it succeed? Maybe open up more than just tanning? I dont know.. so I figured I would ask for some opinions around here.

oh and id probably wait till the beginning of the year to open possibly? being that it seems that most people say thats better than right now to open??

Ya... its a little late to open a salon now although some salons are. By the time word gets out, even with ample advertising, you will be near the end of the season. But you may do well, depends on how much of a jump start you can make getting going.

At this stage, you are probably two months from opening once everything is planned, wired, built, advertisers lined up, etc....

Best thing to do is check out salons in the area and see how they are doing, try to talk to the owners. Some may be rather open, some will not.

true... true... thanks.. i have been trying to talk to some nearby but not everyone is cooperative. they dont want others taking away there business... which is understandable.

I figure at the meantime, a lot of advertising, website, etc etc... learning whatever i dont know..

try to see what the area might be missing/lacking even though there are many salons. we had 4 salons already open on the same highway within 3 miles of our location......what we didn't have was a trendy, nice upscale salon with large rooms and a full HP laydown bed. so far this has been a good decision. :)
