Refer a Friend?

High, New Tanning salon here opening up in the next couple weeks...

How many of you's have used a "Refer a Friend" program and how did it work out? also should i wait to imply this till after the first month "Grand Opening" deals or get it into the works asap?

Pay & Discount: what do u find keeps your employees the happiest and most effective... %Commission, %Discounts, etc.

Thx a bunch

Re: Refer a Friend?

Do you plan on having many employees? How big is your salon going to be? We opened 4 months ago and have no employees.

Start refer a friend right away.

You will find refer a friend is your best (and cheapest) form of advertising.

Re: Refer a Friend?

start a referal problem ASAP. i do 1 free tan or upgrade.

10% commision, free tanning any level, and free lotion works for me

actually what makes my employee real happy is knowing she can actually ask me for a day off and get it. even if its just to go to the beach or sleep in. my main employee is 20 works 2 jobs and goes to college.....time off without me *****ing is a plus to her. she always mentions how her other boss *****es if she needs a day off and i give her a day off when she just wants to sleep. LOL she dosent abuse it at all. Actually she had today off (SNOWED) but will take my saturday

luckily i can work her shift myself, but most of the time we just switch days

I would like to pick up one High School hired hand. For one, i was hoping it would plug me into the local High school and almost serve as a form of Advertisement. Secondly it would be nice to help me out in the busy time (Afternoon) for it will be Just ME =/

I have a Good size salon, It's 1,980sq ft. I am opening with only 5 beds (Room for 10), I also have 2 massage rooms in the back. I would like to find some good ideas to link massage and tanning into one package. 6months of tanning and 1 massage per month for $XX.XX, just a liitle something i can play around with.

Re: Refer a Friend?

We give free tans for referrals, up to the level that their referral purchased.
For Employees, we offer free tanning and 40% off lotions and I give them free packets to try out other lotions that we dont currently sell or new lotions. They are your best advertising, when employees are tan the clients want to know what lotions they are using and what beds they tan in. No one is going to take tanning advice from someone paler than they are. We have a tiered commission payout, the pricier the lotion is the higher the commission % is. This gives them incentive to try to sell the more expensive lotions which in turn makes the employee more money and us more profit.

Re: Refer a Friend?

All good stuff there from everyone. YES, a thousand times YES!!!! You MUST have a "Refer a friend" program year round and promote it vigorously, every day, at every opportunity. Make changes and have "drives" from time to time to spur excitement and results. Your existing tanning base is the least expensive, highest ROI marketing dept. you will ever have! There is probably a ton of info on here about different methods, rewards, promotions, etc. to help you get some ideas. No matter what you do though, bottom line is your clients will help to take care of you when you take care of them. Good luck, and congratulations! Welcome to the family! -Mr. B-Dog

Re: Refer a Friend?

When I do mailers I put a coupon for 50% OFF A TAN for new clients, and $5.00 off for old (this is for airbrush tanning), when the old client redeems the coupon I simply give it back to them and ask them to give the coupon to someone new who hasn't tanned before to get the 50% off.

I also keep stylists and salon employees happy and tanned at 50% off at several salons...then I sit back and let them bring in the business for me.

Re: Refer a Friend?

I do EyeCandy Dollars for referals, works well.

Keep in mind if the person is under 18, they may not be able to work the salon alone.
