Red face How to start a Mobile Tanning Biz.

Hello everyone! I have been reading the forums & threads here on TanTalk for the past 2 weeks & this is my first post. I am trying to educate myself as much as possible on the Mobile Spreay Tanning business. I need your help. Everyone, please bare with me, I am new, new, new. Fresh meat!

Here's the deal:

I am in Southern California. I want to start a mobile tanning business. I am currently checking into the following products: Fantasy Tan Air Caddy, Apllo hplv, & the Turbo Tan. Can anyone recommend the best product for me?

Also, do I need to get a business license first to order my products?

What insurance in California do I need to go into peoples homes to spray tan them?

I cannot find the information I am looking for. TanTalk is the mos informative site that I have found so far & all of you seem to be well-respected business owners. So your advice is greatly appreciated.

I need help in every aspect people. I want to give the best quality tans available with the best customer service. I want to put my clients happiness & safety first. That is my number one priority. Any suggestions? I don't even know where to start. That's why I came to all of you.

-Sonya

I don't do sunless personally. But a little business 101 would be: yes you need insurance (liability), if you dont want to get "the shaft" on products you should probably register your business etc.

My only and BEST advice - just contact a GOOD (reputable) business atty and they will put all of your ducks in a row.

I would start right here:
http://www.tanningprogram.com/sunless

Also if your budget permits it make sure you check out Infinity Sun.

You can PM me if you have any more questions I might be able to help with. :)

Yes with the Infinity Spa you can. Your trunk does need to be large enough though because it doesn't have a telescoping handle. It's very lightweight and wheeling it around is simple.

Re: How to start a Mobile Tanning Biz.

I do mobile and I use the Fantasytan system that is wheeled like luggage. I dont carry any special insurance except my auto and my regular salon insurance. I was told by my ins. company there was no need to purchase additional insur. I have an SUV and I am able to load my stuff in pretty easily. I do it in their shower and hang a black sheet over the shower rod and it works fine. I mostly do bridal parties! Good Luck!

Re: How to start a Mobile Tanning Biz.

I dont know CA laws but in Michigan, all i have is a regular Business Lisc. and DBA and Federal Tax Id for my Retail. You can attain all these easily at your local county clerks office and Fed Tax Id can be done online easily.

Missyhot,

I contacted FantasyTan & have yet to hear back from them. About how much does their unit cost?

Re: How to start a Mobile Tanning Biz.

Hmmmm, I've given this a minimal amount of thought and come up with this: get a sprayer, get some juice, advertise in the paper and tell all your friends and family and tell them to tell everyone else. POOF! You have a mobile spray business. Any other questions while I'm still concious?
