busy season question

When is busy season for a new tanning salon. I just opened a salon in april. We were busy april -june almost died in july-sept, oct has been getting busier but not that much. It was busy for us around homecoming. When does the season really get going? Do I have to do major advertising? I have about five different local coupon books and flyers out to get the word out. What am I missing that I get about 20 people per day if I am lucky now. My busy days I don't get over 40. Is that normal for a new salon in oct? I need help. Thanks.

Better than normal in my opinion.

Re: busy season question

As late as you opened, that is typical. Most tanners probably already had packages elsewhere for "season" and now have drifted off. If you had a strong EFT program from the beginning that may have made that a little less of an issue, but there still is a strong cyclical swing in bodies in this industry.

Advertising this time of year should be kept to a bare minimum (e.g. LOW dollars). Nobody is listening. Email your data base, put a sign in your window, put a wrap on your car with your salon name, work your referrals -- low investment.

Best months are generally March-May. Worst are Sept-Nov.

Plan on a BIG "event" around mid-January/February this year to try to capture your market. Make it your "Grand Opening". Free tan week or weekend (search threads on this) will help. Target all the names in your data base - give incentives for people to bring a friend!

Later this month, start promoting gift card sales - that will give a little "bump" for December.

Re: busy season question

Okay so that gives me hope. I will def so the friend thing. I am trying to cross promote with people but they seem not to want to give a discount or anything to help me out but I give them free tans to give to their customers. How can I work that out? What kinds of businesses are best for this?

Re: busy season question

If they aren't working with you, then don't cross promote. Do something else.

Forget tanning. Buy Google stock. It's going to hit $1000.00.

I can't. I spent all my money opening a tanning salon.
