Re: Existing Employees

Thats a tough one,I would keep the better of the 2 and weed the lesser out after you have a grasp of the operation and a good relationship with your customers. The customers may have good relations with some of the existing employees, find out who they like to deal with and sh*t can the rest. From my experience, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. If the business was running at max potential, then the people that are there are probably worth their weight.IF your trying to "flip it",then the help needs to go.They are partly to blame for for the businesses inefficiency.

Im new to these boards, but not to the tanning business, who the **** is Derf?

Re: Existing Employees

Keep in mind that you are technically going to be rehiring these employees. That means that you can offer to pay them whatever you are willing to. If you plan to work at the salon full time, there are only so many left over hours for employees. Money can be tight after an investment like the one you could be making and most people (employees and existing salon clients) are understanding of this.

Whatever you do, try to keep things on the up and up with the employees that have been there for a while and are buddy buddy with many of the clients (...especially if you are going to have to let them go). It sounds like this isn't their only source of income some they should be okay without the extra income. I would offer them a 20%-30% discount on their tanning for a period of time if you do need to let them go. Maybe even give them 1 month unlimited or more. There presence in the salon will show your clients that there are no hard feelings and that you (the new salon owner) are a good guy/gal.

Thanks for your unput - but that is not what this forum was about!!! I said in the beginning I wasnt sure what I was doing yet, but wanted opinions about THE EMPLOYEES - not if you think I am ready to be a business owner

Thanks - this is a good comment. I will really take this into consideration. At this point I am thinking about working myself and keeping someone there for nights and weekends. It will save me money and help me out in the long run.

that is a good idea - offer them a month package so they dont go bad mouth you and tell people not to come :o) then give them a % off. My old boss still does that with us. gives us a break on tanning and all.

Re: Existing Employees

Happy to help!

Hey, could "pippe" be one of your new disgruntle employees? That just seemed like a rather aggressive and mean thing to say. Especially from someone who has had so little to say until now.
