Re: electric bill

2700 sq ft, 10 beds, $3500 highest bill for mid-oct thru mid-nov. 16 tons of air. college town, average 275 during fall semester. averaged 300+ the 2 weeks before spring break. heat has been an issue at times. we are in an older but newly renovated shopping center. top floor, tin roof, and we opened up the ceiling. looking into exhaust system but will have to check with landlord about cutting into structure to vent outside. checked into portable a/c in each room as well. as long as it is below 65 outside, we open 1 of 3 doors and use a fan to pull in the outside air. otherwise, we fight a losing battle. it's mississippi heat! opened june 07. we have 4 unused rooms and are looking to add more beds in the fall but need to fix the heat issue first.

Re: electric bill

1119 watts x 8 hours/day = 8952 watts
8952 divided by 1000 = 8.952 Kwh
8.952 x 0.218 = Rm. 1.95/day
Rm.1.95/day x 30 = Rm.58.50/month

This will help http://www.hydrogenappliances.com/oh...alculator.html
Now you know not only how much you are paying but how much you should be paying. Now get that neighbor off your electric!

Re: electric bill

This is an interesting topic. Electrical cost is something that should be considered when structuring your new salon. There is now tanning equipment available that are powered by electronic ballast. This type of ballast will lower power consumption by 25%, they will also reduce the amount of AC required to keep your tanning rooms cool. Placing the thermostats in tanning rooms instead of hallways will also help control AC use. Salon design will also help lower electrical consumption. Another thing to think about is equipment selection. A 42 lamp 160 watt system with facials will produce the same tan as a 54 lamp system, generate as much income while lowering electric cost and lamp replacement cost. I don't think enough thought is given to these issues when building salons.

Maybe your low bill has something to do with why you're selling your salon.

Re: electric bill

Ours usually run around 400.00 a month. Expect it to be higher this year because good ole' TVA is raising prices.

Re: electric bill

I think Steve Underhill is saying that everyone should buy a tan america tanning bed to save on electric and that they should call him before buying.

Actually a number of equipment companies are now offering electronic ballast systems, in the future there will be more. You can certainly call me for assistance however I am sure there are many Consulting companies out there that specialize in this industry. Call someone, get qualified assistance, save money while making more money. A very simple formula. When is the last time you heard me try and sell TA equipment on these forums? I am very fortunate to have you here to translate my post, thank you.

Re: electric bill

Thanks for the great advice Steve. With energy costs rising so much it can be a major consideration. If you think about it salons, in a way, re-sell electricity. It most salons second or third largest expense that is controllable to a degree.
