Importance of Advertising
It is important to remember that the amount of business you do is in direct relationship to the amount of and type of advertising you do.
While the packaging of your salon is very important, advertising is the key. You cant sell your product until the tanners visit your salon. Mailers to your client base as well as to targeted areas, email advertising every week or at least twice a month, door hangers. These are a few methods of advertising. Never try to make a sale with your advertising, the advertising should be designed to get them into the store. The sale is made at the counter. Always offer a special that is to good to pass up. Be aggressive with your advertising, it will pay off. Don't wait until it is too late, the time is now. |

Re: Importance of Advertising
meh, advertising, in my experience is mostly a waste of money. doesn't seem to mater what you do or offer, if they don't want your product or service they won't act.
This biz is sooo much like hair dressing, at least locally. We have 42 of them listed in the phone book and your very rarely see them advertise anything. Word of mouth. |

Yeah, word of mouth in this type of biz is the key. Might take a while to get there, but once it does, that's going to be the bulk of your business. Cross Marketing is good and usually NO COST! Go put your "Advertising Box" at every Hair, Nail, Color Salon in town, as well as any other "Like Kind" Business. Costs nothing, and you will most likely not make a killing on it, but it's free advertising. Imagine how many customers come in a very nice salon on a monthly basis. Now imagine that ONE (1) of those customers comes in your spot and spends $100 from one of your ads. WOW-What a nice profit huh! Never try to make a sale with your advertising, the advertising should be designed to get them into the store. The sale is made at the counter. Always offer a special that is to good to pass up. Be aggressive with your advertising, it will pay off. Not sure I agree with this one 100%. I mean, if you're gonna spend the money to do the advertising, why not BLAST your great deals out there as well. Yes, I agree, the sale comes once they walk in. That is what I tell everyone that works for me, "I will get them to the door, but it's your job to MAKE THE SALE" There's a difference in making the sale and advertising, these are two totally different animals. |

Re: Importance of Advertising
In my experience advertising doesn't work well either. Tried everything in the book, got little response and we have now cut down advertising to a bare minimum. I'd rather do something else with my money.

Re: Importance of Advertising
I was an advertising/marketing major and you need at least 5 impressions to make anything stick with people, 5 postcards, radio ads etc.... 5 is the magic number. You just can't stop at 3 or 2 as it is ineffective.
Word of Mouth is certainly the best and overall will be what makes your salon successful.
