So far I found the type of advertising that has cost me the least has brought in the most customers....with word of mouth in the lead.

No doubt about it, you have to constantly market to your existing clientelle and incent them to also bring you new potential customers. But it is equally important, and never more than it is today, to continue actively "trolling" in the Bering Sea of current tanners and potential new tanners. Today's tanning consumer has ten times the choices of salons to go to than they did just five years ago; and it isn't enough anymore to simply have your name "out there" and expect to draw the the numbers of customers needed these days to succesfully support the average tanning salon. Advertising, as with sex, is "good" generally speaking, but it can always get better. And when what you are doing currently isn't meeting expectations, get help and make changes. Hope this helps. I had 6 new clients yesterday from old clients that have moved away from us back in 2005. Word of mouth is still alive and strong. Give them a reason to invite new people here. I give the new client a packette of lotion and the referer I give them a $5 credit.

I have noticed a much better response to my advertising this year vs. last year. Most ads last year produced no results.

Word of mouth babies! Use your satisfied clients to spread the word other wise you will spend 1000's for squat!!!

Been there done that.

the only people that are benefitting from you big ad campaigns are the ones that sold them to you.

I did radio recently. ALL my clients heard it and we only picked up 3 new peeps from it.
