Re: Texas Newbie - which beds to buy???

EVen the most rooted salons can have trouble keeping up with trust fund newbies looking to kill the boredom and having something else to flaunt.

Re: Texas Newbie - which beds to buy???

No Brandy hating here. I don't even know you but there are exactly 3 salons in a 30 mile radius where I'll be opening my wife's and only one (20 miles away) has a clue as to what tanners really want. One other is a pair of retired sisters who truly just want something to do and the other has had 3 owners in the last 2 years with one thing in common - bad beds. I expect to be part of the 10% and have indeed utilized Steve's services. I come to this site everyday looking for any information available and I tire of the negativity. Best of luck to you Brandy. Hope there are no hard feelings.

Well that's good because I just read your myspace blogs and my wife is wondering what the **** I'm laughing at. Like you we have two boys but we are nearly as funny as you. Maybe your husband could teach me the helicopter. You should augment your tanning income with a little freelance comedy writing. Very very funny!

Seems someone is in a "decent" market. Lots aren't and every Numbskull that sees your busy season (and thinks you're getting rich) as an invitation to cut another slice out of the pie.

Re: Texas Newbie - which beds to buy???

Just my observation but getting rich in the tanning business requires several stores. If my wife can take a salary and still manage to turn a small profit it's a success in my book. Burberry and Louis Vuitton are kicking my *** in the meantime!

Re: Texas Newbie - which beds to buy???

True. As a second income you might be okay. My place started as that, but suddenly it became the primary income for me. With two kids at home and no wife making the big bux..... argh

Brandy, you are correct, I don't currently own a salon, however over the years I have owned 14 salons. Because I understand what a salon owner goes through I can put my self in your position. I have worked those 80 hour weeks trying to make my salons the best they can be. After 27 years in every field of this industry I realized that there was a need for an organization that actually taught salon owners how to properly structure and operate a successful salon. Many of you are doing well and still have questions as to how you can improve business while sharing some of the successful ideas that have helped you. This is a great place for that interaction. I am fortunate that I can make a good living sharing all of the valuable information that I have sorted out over the years. Many of you had no help when you started and still built strong salons. Trust me when I tell you new salons will never stop[ opening. I have heard the saturation concern for 15 years. All types of business will come and go. That does not mean that a person Can't be one of the success stories no matter how many salons are there now or will open in the future. It is the American way to want a piece of the pie. The tanning industry is a delicious looking pie that will always draw new people that want a piece of it. If you currently own a salon or you are going to open one. Be smart and give yourself the greatest opportunity to succeed.
